Tim,
I just reviewed your as -built on this one. My concern with the ditch was that it didn't meet the 50' setback from the
existing drainfields, not just the distribution box. So the 'sealing off of the ditch needs to occur so that it meets a
50 ft from the ends of the trenches,

ALL SERVICE septic, LLC performed an installation observation on September l ls', 2006, for the
subject property.
The installation included a new 1500 -gallon single -compartment concrete septic tank. The tank was
placed to precede the existing tank series, consisting of one 1250 -gallon septic tank, and a
distribution vault.
The outlet pipes in the distribution vault, serving the two existing drain fields, were re -directed to
achieve even distribution. Effluent filters were placed in the vault.
A new concrete distribution box, with a concrete baffle was installed to serve the existing SB -2 drain
field. The old distribution box was removed.
Soil was placed 50 feet on either side of the new concrete distribution box to prevent irrigation water
from being directed through the existing irrigation ditch, near the drain fields. The soil was
compacted, and the owner was notified of the intention.
The OWS components were installed according to specifications. This observation is not a guarantee
of workmanship and/or parts and materials. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified if changes
are made to the OWS.

Hi Nancy,
We are all finished. The ditch was 'sealed' off to prevent any water going through it.
I will do a installation letter, and comment on the ditch work.
I should be done with that by the endof this week.
Tank photo included.

Hi Nancy,
I talked with Steven Koski about the ditch needing to be lined if they want it to continue as a ditch. He
said he would talk it over with the owner.
Tim had me place a loader bucket full of earth in the ditch fifty feet on each side of the distribution
box to block the ditch for the time being. It seems that Steven or the owner need a reminder to hurry
along the decision as to what they are going to do.
Hope this helps,
Rollin

I talked with Steven Koski today and he said the owner is having him get a complete job proposal
together for the apartment in the barn. If it goes over his maximum, and no one knows what that is, he
won't do the barn apartment nor the septic system.
However, they are going to add the tank on the house system along with the "D" box and whatever
else you have to be done. He said I'm doing that part for sure so I wanted to know if you had that
worked up. I could probably do that next week or at least before we go NY on Sept. 15.
Let me know

Project No. 1226
Revised Onsite Wastewater Evaluation and Upgrade OWS Recommendations for Existing Residence
910 White Star Drive, W/J Ranch
Pitkin County, Colorado
Mr. Koski,
ALL SERVICE septic, LLC evaluated the existing onsite wastewater system (OWS) at the subject
property and have prepared recommendations to upgrade the existing OWS in order to conform to
current regulations. The property is located outside of the town of Aspen Colorado, in an area where
OWS are necessary. The property is served by the ranch water service.
SITE CONDITIONS
An 8 -bedroom residence, utilizing its own OWS exists on the property. The house plumbing is
separated, with 4 -bedrooms utilizing a 1250 -gallon 2 -compartment concrete septic tank followed by a
concrete basin, and the additional 4 -bedrooms utilizing one 2500 -gallon 2 -compartment septic tank.
A distribution vault distributes the effluent to two drain fields, as indicated on Figure 1.
Two drains field exist at the subject property. The original drain field was installed approximately 15
years ago and consists of 8 S13-2 laterals, for a total approximate area of 2400 SF. The most recent
drain field was installed in 1998, and consists of 6 chamber trenches for an infiltrative area of 1612
SF.
OBSERVATIONS
The existing septic tanks and distribution vault are in good condition. All access risers and lids are intact
and secure. One set of tanks is undersized to serve 4 -bedrooms according to current regulations.
The distribution vault has two inlets and two outlets. The outlet leading to the chamber drain field is not
receiving effluent, due to the pipe elevation. Most of the effluent is being directed to the SB -2 drain
field.
j
0 0
Onsite Wastewater systems
Page 2
The SB -2 drain field was excavated and appears to be functioning normally. The sock around the
perforated pipe was moist, although no Biomat has formed. Due to the age of the most recent field, and
the fact effluent was not being discharged to it; the chamber drain field was not excavated.
B & R septic provided camera and jet work at the subject property. There is question regarding the
condition of the distribution box serving the SB -2 drain field.
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
1. Each 4 -bedroom section of the house, must have a minimum of 2275 -gallons of tank
capacity serving it, with 60% of which must be in the first compartment. Install a 1500 -
gallon, single -compartment, precast concrete septic tank in front of the existing 1250 -
gallon tank, as indicated on Figure 1. Place effluent filters on the outlets of the existing
1250 -gallon and the 2500 -gallon septic tanks.
2. Replace or redirect the outlet pipe to the chamber drain field to establish even
distribution. Place flow regulators on outlet pipes for future leveling.
3. The distribution box serving the SB -2 drain field must be replaced. Install a concrete
distribution box with a baffle to serve the SB -2 drain field.
4. The SB -2 drain field was sized based on 60 MPI and was sized accordingly. The chamber
drain field was sized based on 27 MPI, and was sized accordingly. (Only a 301/6 reduction
was taken, rather than a 501/6 in the sizing of the chamber drain field.)
OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE
The surface of the drain field and all excavations should be seeded upon completion. Vegetation is an
important factor in drain field performance. Erosion control should be practiced prior to and during
re -vegetation. Geo -fabrics or plastics should not be used over the drain field. Livestock should not
graze on the drain field. Plumbing fixtures should be checked to ensure that no additional water is
being discharged to OWS. For Example, a running toilet or leaky faucet can discharge hundreds of
gallons of water a day and harm a drain field.
The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years and clean the effluent filter as needed.
Garbage disposal use should be minimized, and non -biodegradable materials should not be placed
into the OWS. Grease should not be placed in household drains. Loading from a water softener
should not be discharged into the OWS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWS.
Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWS. The OWS is engineered for domestic
waste only.
INSTALLATION OBSERVATIONS
ALL SERVICE septic, LLC, and the county must view the OWS during construction. The OWS
observation should be performed before backfill, after placement of chambers and distribution pipes.
Septic tanks, distribution devices, pumps, dosing siphons, and other plumbing, as applicable, must
also be observed. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified 48 hours in advance to observe the
installation.
