We are running two (2") pipes to the drain field so the Kempners' will have an extra pipe to use if needed some day. we also hand dug the trench down the hill side today. Tomorrow we will trench along side the North side of the house to the top of the hill side and hopefully we will run the pipes down the steep hill side and back fill it all. Wednesday the old tank will be abandoned. The installation included a 2000 -gallon, two-compartment concrete septic tank with an AdvantexTM AX -20 unit, followed by a gravelless chamber drain field with 6 -inches of imported sand filter material. The drain field had 71 `Quick4' chambers in 6 rows for a total infiltrative area of 701 SF. There were 2 -inch perforated laterals suspended the full length of each chamber row. A 2 -inch level manifold was installed to distribute effluent. The OWTS was generally installed according to specifications. This observation is not a guarantee of workmanship and/or parts and materials. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified if changes are made to the OWTS. LIMITS: The observation was based on information submitted and our site visit. If conditions are different from conditions described in this letter, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All additional OWTS construction must be according to the county regulations. The installer should have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working. A profile pit and three percolation holes were dug adjacent the existing septic disposal pit within the existing building area The profile pit had a total depth of )2 feet (8 feet below crawlspace grade) and exposed slightly silty sandy gravel with cobbles and small boulders. No free water was encountered. The test holes (nominal 12 inch diameter by 12 inch deep) were hand dug in the side and bottom of the profile pit and were soaked with water one Jay prior to testing. The percolation test results are presented In Table 1 and indicate %tahilized average rates between 5 and 8 minutes per inch The existing percolation pit is reportedly about 8 feet deep and sized for a percolation rate of 5 minutes per inch. A wonnaissance of the property was made on AttM 10, 1998. A percolation test was performed by Aspcv?itkin County Environmental Health Department on August 28, 1986 based on their field test data sheet provided to us. The septic disposal system consists of a dry well placed adjacent the north side of the residence based on the design drawing shown on a 1980 improvement survey by Harold Johnson. The subsoils found to 6% feet consist of silt and sand above silty sand, gravel and cobble to the pit depth of 744 feet. The percolation test was performed in the bottom of the pit and had a rate of 5 minutes per inch Groundwater was not encountered and the ,,cater level is expected to ba relatively deep. Rased on our review, the existing dr well system appears appropriate for enlargement of ire septic disposal system. An additional dry well could be located to she east of the existing septic tank. The subsurface profile and percolation rate should be determined for the new dtywell design. The system should be designed by a civil engiuccr. If you have any questions or require further assistance, please call our office. The property is located outside of Aspen Colorado, in an area where OWS and wells are necessary. SITE CONDITIONS A single-family residence presently exists, although will be remodeled to a 5 -bedroom residence having less than 6000SF. There is an existing OWS (tank and drywell) that will be abandoned. The proposed drain field area is on a lower bench on the property. The Roaring Fork River flows to the southwest of the residence. The proposed drain field area slopes 5% to the southwest, and vegetation consists of a moderate cover of grasses. Water will be provided by a well as indicated on the plans. SUBSURFACE The subsurface was investigated by digging one profile pit and three percolation holes. The materials in the profile pit consisted of 1.5 -feet of a sandy root zone, underlain by sand with cobbles to the maximum depth explored of 6 feet. Groundwater or bedrock was not observed. Three percolation holes were dug, in the area of the proposed drain field, as indicated. Percolation rates ranged from 10 to 14 minutes per inch (MPI). An 11 MPI rate will be used to design the OWS. DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS The OWS design is based on 5 -bedrooms and an average sewage load of 750 GPD. The installation must include a 2000 -gallon, two-compartment, precast concrete septic tank with an AX -20 secondary treatment unit, to be followed by a gravelless chamber bed. The bed must have 6 rows of 12 `Quick - 4' chambers for a total of 72 chambers. Six inches of concrete sand must be placed beneath ae 0 • OWS Design Page 2 chambers.A 2" perforated PVC lateral must be suspended within chambers the entire length of the chambers. A level manifold must be used to distribute effluent. Construction must be according to the county ISDS regulations, the septic permit provided by Pitkin County Environmental Health Depart- ment, and this design. ADVANTEX OPERATION AND INSTALLATION A qualified installer should install The AdvantexTM Unit. A two-year operation and maintenance contract should be provided by the installer. Additional construction notes are provided on construction figures attached. 1. The control panel should be mounted in `line -of -site' to tank and AdvantexTM unit. 2. A dedicated 15A service for control breaker (in OSI panel) is required. 3. A dedicated 20A service for P30 and P50 pumps is required (1/2 hp or less). 4. If wires from breaker to panel and/or pumps exceed 75 feet we should be contacted to consider 230 -volt recommendations. 5. Conduit should be used for electrical lines. 6. Electrician must provide phone line, if applicable, and terminate in control panel. OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE The surface of the drain field should be seeded upon completion. Vegetation is an important factor in drain field performance. Erosion control should be practiced prior to and during re -vegetation. Geo - fabrics or plastics should not be used over the drain field. Livestock should not graze on the drain field. Plumbing fixtures should be checked to ensure that no additional water is being discharged to OWS. For Example, a running toilet or leaky faucet can discharge hundreds of gallons of water a day and harm a drain field. The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years and clean the effluent filter as needed. Garbage disposal use should be minimized, and non -biodegradable materials should not be placed into the OWS. Grease should not be placed in household drains. Loading from a water softener should not be discharged into the OWS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWS. Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWS. The OWS is engineered for domestic waste only. ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES If design includes a pump, air release valves and weep holes should be installed to allow pump lines to drain to minimize risk of freezing. Excavation equipment must not drive in excavation of drain field due to the potential to compact soil. Extensions should be placed on all septic tank components to allow access to them from existing grade. Precast concrete tanks and distribution boxes should be used, unless plastic or fiberglass is required. Access to all tank compartments and distribution devices is required. 0Y- r , OWS Design Page 3 INSTALLATION OBSERVATIONS ALL SERVICE septic, LLC, and the county must view the OWS during construction. The OWS observation should be performed before backfill, after placement of chambers and distribution pipes. Septic tanks, distribution devices, pumps, dosing siphons, and other plumbing, as applicable, must also be observed. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified 48 hours in advance to observe the installation. 191811 The design is based on information submitted. if soil conditions encountered are different from conditions described in report, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All OWS construction must be according to the county regulations. Requirements not specified in this report must follow county regulations. The installer should have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working. Please call with questions.
