This letter presents the results of our tests. We performed percolation testing on May 13, 1996 in percolation holes prepared and saturated by the owner on May 12, 1996. Test results are presented on the attached Figures 1 through 3. We recommend a design percolation rate of 30 min/inch. The percolation rate determined for Hole No. P-3 is inaccurate due to large cobble encountered. There are still a few possible variables with the design. The most important is the expansion of the leach field itself. This design assumes good perk tests in the area we plan to expand into. We should have perk test results within the nest two weeks. After talking to our excavator, Durais Excavation of Carbondale, it was suggested that we tap into the existing leach field on the opposite side of the existing point of entry. He pointed out that when he replaces saturated leach fields that invariably the saturation is worst closest to the point of entry and best on the opposite side of the field. Tapping into the opposite side of the leach field would even out the saturation and would also makes back flow into the existing tanks not an issue. We have drawn in a grinder pump outside the Caretaker Unit garage to get the waste up to the septic tank. If ground water is low enough the excavator thought it would be possible to have a gravity feed line (1/4" per foot drop) to the tank. Thanks for your assistance with our application and design.
