Proclamation of the Board of County Commissioners
of Pitkin County, Colorado
WHEREAS, Kids First Early Childhood Resource Center and Pitkin County child
care providers, are celebrating the Month of the Young Child in May; and
WHEREAS, by raising awareness about the value of high -quality early childhood
programs available for all children and families in our community, and
WHEREAS, Pitkin County thrives when our kids thrive because they are our future
workforce, leaders and community members. We all have a role to play in preparing
our kids for the future, and
WHEREAS building a healthy human brain is a process that begins before birth and
continues into adulthood. A strong foundation early on increases the probability that a
child will be socially and emotionally healthy, as well as physically healthy, and
WHEREAS, given the appropriate learning opportunities that high quality early
childhood programs provide, children acquire language, mathematical, social,
emotional, artistic and physical skill development that strengthens the foundation for
success in life embraced by the Aspen idea of mind, body and spirit.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED, that the Board of County Commissioners
and citizens of Pitkin County join the National Association for the Education of Young
Children in proclaiming May 2017 as the
Month of the Young Child
We extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all those who work so hard to care
for and educate our youngest citizens, and we commend these efforts and encourage
community involvement of all citizens to recognize and support the needs of young
children.
