We also performed construction inspections on August 4th and August 26, 1998 and was found to be in substantial conformance to the plans and specifications dated June 24, 1998, except for the following field changes; 1.) During excavation for placement of the new septic tanks it was discovered that there were two (2) 1250 gallon septic tanks in series. The 2000 gallon septic tank was placed before the two 1250 gal. tanks as shown on the plans. Total septic tank capacity is now 4500 gallons. 2.) Because of the depth of the existing septic tanks the bury depth of the trenches is between 6 feet and 9 feet. 3.) The amount of gravel cover was increased to approximately 2 feet to protect the pipe during back -filling of the trench. Park. The proposed expansion is to serve 20 R.V. units. According to Pitkin County regulations to calculate sewage flow use 50 gallons per person/day. For this design use 1.75 person's per unit. (20 units) x (1.75 PERSONS per unit) = 35 PEOPLE AVERAGE DAILY SEWAGE FLOW = (35 PEOPLE) x (50 GPD/PERSON) = 1750 GPD SERJ N O MAXIMUM DAILY SEWAGE FLOW = (1.75) x AVERAGE DAILY FLOW = (1.75) x (1750 GPD) = 3,062.5 GPD SEPTIC TANK SIZE = 3,829 gallons ELAM CONSTRUCTION PERFORMED 3 PERCOLATION TESTS IN THE AREA OF THE PROPOSED LEACH FIELD, THE RESULTS ARE AS FOLLOWS: TEST HOLE #1 18.0 min/in TEST HOLE #2 9.0 min/in TEST HOLE #3 12.5 MIN/IN THE ABSORPTION AREA (A) FOR A NORMAL GRAVEL TYPE LEACH FIELD IS CALCULATED USING THE FORMULA: A = Q x SQUARE ROOT OF t) 5 Where: Q = MAXIMUM DAILY SEWAGE FLOW = 3,062.5 gallons per day t =PERCOLATION RATE = 18 min/in. THEREFORE: A = (3,062.5) x 18 = 2,598.62 sq. ft 5 For additional gravel in excess of six (6) inches below the bottom of the distribution pipe, a maximum of 30% reduction may be allowed by Pitkin County Environmental Health, according to formula 11-2.1 of the ISDS regulations. This calculation is in excess of 30% and a maximum of 30% will be used for this design. THEREFORE: (0.70) x (2,598.62 sq. ft.) = 1,819.03 sq. ft. Trenches shall be 7 trenches of 75 ft. long and 3 ft. wide and one trench being 81'-8" long by 3 ft. wide for a total area of 1820 sq. ft. Minimum Horizontal Distances shall conform to Pitkin County, Individual Sewage Disposal System Regulations, All components of the septic system shall be installed according to the Pitkin County Regulations, Colorado Department of Health and according to manufacturer specifications.
