Design is for one 1500 gallon and one 1000 gallon septic tank in series, with a Biotube filter in the final outlet, and gravity flow with equal distribution to two systems of Standard Infiltrator units in trenches. Pitkin County has guidelines that must be followed to assure the plants that are introduced are appropriate for the conditions of the area. If approval takes longer than 6 hours, a rate of $100 per hour will be charged. The maximum fee is $1000. The basic fee of $600 is due at the time of application. The remainder, if any, will be due in two stages: first, at the time of issuance of the ]SDS permit; second, before final approval of the ISDS permit. RE: HASSENFLU Septic System - 49 Turtle Cove — Brush creek Village PCEH Permit # 05051 This Final Approval letter is written for the new septic system and the associated permit that serves the Hassenflu Residence at 49 Turtle Cove in Brush Creek Village. The system was designed and installed and placed into service in the summer of 2006. PCEH, and GDD inspected the installation of the system and found it was installed according to MR's design and PCEH requirements. This letter is to serve as the acceptance letter for MR and recommendation to Pitkin County for final acceptance of the system. To my knowledge and per my inspection, the System was installed according to MR and PCEH standards and the system layout was installed per the revised design dated May 30, 2006. The system consists of 1-1,500 and 1-1,250 gallon tanks and 2 infiltrator systems. Each OWS has 5 rows of 8 infiltrators in each row, (40 in each system and 80 TOTAL). One system is located below the house and the other system is located below the road. Attached is an asbuilt of the system as installed. A visual test was passed on the pumping system to insure all rows of infiltrators in the Mound System were distributing effluent evenly. Please call is�you have any questions. G. RE: Hassenflu Residence - Septic System Design Notes — 49 Turtle Cove in Brush Creek Village — UPDATED DESIGN INFO: Due to the contractor installing the infiltrators 8 feet apart instead of 10 feet and not having 6 feet of undisturbed soil between trenches, the design of the system needs to be modified. Since we do have 6 feet between the trenches we do not have a typical bed or a typical trench system, but a hybrid so speak. The design and soils do not warrant the redesign of the system based upon a bed system but does not have enough soil between trenches to meet the requirements of a trench system. I recommend that we add another row of infiltrators, spaced 10 feet apart from the previously installed rows, to the system. This would effectively increase the size of the system by 25% not the 30% increase that the bed design would require. The total number of infiltrators would increase from 64 to 80 units in 5 rows of 8 infiltrators. We will also install the two items you requested tees in the first tank per the regulations and the installation of larger baffled distribution boxes to evenly distribute flow to each of the 5 (Five) rows of infiltrators in each system. The existing OWS, located just below the haeme is old and is to be abandoned in place. Over the years records shown two additions to the system. Investigative excavations found the existing system to be plugged and not working. The new system will completely replace a old system. 5 — Bedrooms - Approx. 5,000 Square Feet of living area -100 gallons per day per person - Per Rates 30 MPI By GDD - Ground wter 500'+1- feet from surface not encountered - Public Wa er System - Existing System — 1-1,000 gallon tank, which will be abandoned / Flow = Q = � bed rooms x 2 peo/br x 100 gal/day/per x 1.75(max flow) = 1,7550 gallons per day. / Tank sizing - 5 - Bed Rooms requires 2,187 gallons of septic tanks; Q X 1.25. Install two new tanks — 1- 1,500 gallon tank and 1- 1,000 gallon tank for a total of 2,500 gallons. The new double chambered tanks shall be located in series below the existing home and will be installed in the general area north of the home in the open area. A minimum drop of 3" is required between tanks. Tees will be installed on both the influent and effluent lines of the tank; set on the inside of the tank. Set top of line from tee within 1" of the roof of the tank and extend line downward 14" below centerline of tee. Fill tank with water prior to backfill to check for leaks and leave water in tank for placing the system in service. Septic tank will be two -chambered tanks. Install an OSI 4" diameter Biotube, or equal, inside the new 1,000 -gallon tank's effluent line. The housing is to be 36" high with a cartridge length of 28", using SDR 26 PVC piping. Piping from the home to the tanks will be 4" SDR 35 PVC laid at a minimum of 1%. Insul tis with less than 42" of cover or in uninsulated crawl spaces. Minimum depth is 3.5' for all piping. Install cleanout between house and septic tank. Use standard 2" Blue BOard clon led 6" above all pipelinesthe pipe and laid to and from the on a flat bedding surface if less then 3 5' of overon septic tanks,. Install cleanouts between the home and septic tanks. This is a gravity feed system using infiltrators and serial distribution. No pumping or dosing system is proposed. Each system will have 32 units in 4 rows of 8 units. We will use Infiltrator Standardsanits. Total length of each trench is 48 feet long. Total 64 infiltrators in two trench systems. Each trench will be stepped down and offset slightly to fit the site.. (Infiltrator Quick 4 could be used as well -Quick 4's are required, 4 rows of 13 infiltrators in each system OR 102 TOTAL). The advantage of Quick 4's is they work better on sites that require curved rows. Distribution line to the field from the tank and in between the trench systems shall be 4" SDR 26 PVC. Install cleanout between home and the first tank and if any line between tank and the system exceeds 100 -feet in length. Remove all burrs, excess material, and other debris from drilling the perforations in the pipe. Rake trench bottoms and sidewalls prior to installation of infiltrators. Install a splitter box with a baffle to evenly distribute flows between the two systems and again at each system to evenly distribute flow to each row. System location to be field determined to reduce tree and vegetation removal, site conditions, and maintain setbacks. Contour the trenches to fit site conditions and the topo of the site. Trenches are to be 10' apart. Minimum depth= 12"; maximum depth = 36" to top of infiltrator. Install access ports/vents on each row of trenches. Use collar on vent as it penetrates the infiltrator to insure pipe does not drop into infiltrator. Move vents on existing system to end of additional rows to be added. Trenches to be with in 2,of level across the entire length of each row. Install splash plates under the entry and exit piping at each end of each row of infiltrators. (Splash Plate - 1' Wide and 18" Long). Adjustments to fit existing site contours and conditions may be made per approval of the engineer and homeowner. Minimal tree and vegetation is to be disturbed during installation. The engineer shall finalize elevations of the tank and trenches in the field. Installation and operation shall be approved by the engineer prior to final acceptance. The existing septic field is to be abandoned in place as part of the contract to install the new system, including the existing septic tank. Contractor to dispose of all materials per Pitkin County Regulations. Care is to be taken working around the existing system, not to disturb the system. System must meet all Pitkin County ISDS requirements and MRLtd. design standards and must be inspected by MRI -td. and Pitkin County prior to Final Approval. Owner is recommended to pump the septic tank at 2 -year intervals and change the Biotube. Landscaping and watering us on top of septic field shall be minimized or eliminated. Owner is to pump the existing tanks as part of the permit for the new system. The septic system installation will be inspected by both Pitkin County and MRL. Provide adequate notice for inspections. We will both need to inspect the tank installation, distribution piping, new infiltrators, splitter box. See attached ISDS Completeness form for more information on installation requirements and information needed for asbuilts.
