Excavation Services installed the system. The existing septic tank was removed and the existing soil treatment area (STA) was abandoned in place. The installation of the new OWTS included a 1500 -gallon, two-compartment concrete septic tank with an effluent filter, followed by a 1000 -gallon, two-compartment concrete septic tank with a screened dosing siphon in the second compartment. The dosing siphon was set to discharge approximately 100 gallons/dose. The siphon was tested at the time of our September 13, 2016 visit. Effluent is dosed to a baffled distribution box, accessible from grade, and then to seven gravelless chamber trenches, each with 15 'Quick 4' Infiltrator® chambers. There was a minimum of 6 -feet of undisturbed soil between each trench. Inspection ports were installed at the beginning and end of each trench. The OWTS was generally installed according to specifications. This observation is not a guarantee of workmanship and/or parts and materials. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified if changes are made to the OWTS in the future. Any additional OWTS construction must be according to the county regulations. LIMITS: Observations are limited to components that are visible at the time of the inspection. The installer must have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working. PaW ALL33 Four Wheel Drive Rd Carbondale, CO 81623 970.309-5259 September 14, 2016 Jeff and Rona Citrin 7 Dewart Road Greenwich, CT 06830 Subsurface Investigation and Onsite Wastewater Treatment System Design 5 -Bedroom Residence + Future 1 -Bedroom ADU 155 Danielson Drive Pitkin County, Colorado Jeff and Rona, Project No. C1030 ALL SERVICE septic, LLC performed a subsurface investigation and completed an onsite wastewater treatment system (OWTS) design for the subject residence. The property is located outside of Aspen, in an area where OWTSs are necessary. The residence is currently served by and will continue to be served by Starwood Metro District. The legal description of the property is Lot R-72, Block 11, Starwood Eleven, Starwood Subdivision. SITE CONDITIONS A single-family residence presently exists and a remodel is proposed. A 5 -bedroom residence with greater than 6000 square feet of living area will result from the remodel. A future 1 -bedroom additional dwelling unit (ADU) is also proposed. The existing OWTS will be abandoned and replaced with a new OWTS. An attempt was made to locate the existing tank by running a camera through the sewer line. The camera rari into standing water in the pipe at a point between the house and the tank. The existing tank must be located, pumped, and properly abandoned or removed. The existing absorption area can be abandoned in-place. The proposed soil treatment area (STA) slopes to the south. The proposed area is covered with native grasses and vegetation. SUBSURFACE The subsurface investigation was performed on August 14, 2103, prior to the adoption of the current Pitkin County OWTS Regulation, which now requires two soil profile test pit excavations. The subsurface was investigated by digging one 8 -foot soil profile hole and taking a soil sample from approximately 3 -feet below grade. A gradation analysis and hydrometer analysis was run by HP Geotech and results are detailed in a report dated August 22, 2013, Job No 113 064S. The materials encountered in the soil profile hole consisted of 6 -inches of topsoil, underlain by brown to reddish brown, dense, moist, sandy loam to maximum depth explored of 8.0 -feet. No bedrock or groundwater was encountered. A pipe was placed in the pit to monitor for groundwater. The gradation performed by HP Geotech shows the soil consists of 2% gravel, 62% sand, 31 % silt and 5% clay. The USDA soil type is classified as Sandy Loam. A long term acceptance rate (LTAR) of 0.60 gal/sq. ft will be used to design the OWTS, in accordance with Pitkin County OWTS Regulation, Table 6.28-7. 0 Page 2 August 14, 2013 / 8 -foot soil profile hole DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS The OWTS design is based on 5 -bedrooms having greater than 6000 square feet of living area and 1 - bedroom in the future, detached ADU. A design flow of 1150 GPD will be used. A separate OWTS Construction Permit (tank only) must be obtained prior to installation of this septic tank. Prior to excavation, ALL SERVICE septic and the landscape architect should be consulted to verify locations of both the trenches and distribution lines to minimize disturbance. Page 3 The component manufacturers are typical of applications used by contractors and engineers in this area. Alternatives may be considered or recommended by contacting our office. Construction must be according to Pitkin County Onsite Wastewater Treatment System Regulations, the OWTS Construction Permit provided by Pitkin County Environmental Health Department, and this design. REVEGETATION REQUIREMENTS An adequate layer of good quality topsoil capable of supporting revegetation shall be placed over the entire disturbed area of the OWTS installation. A mixture of native grass seed that has good soil stabilizing characteristics (but without taproots), provides a maximum transpiration rate, and competes well with successional species. No trees or shrubs, or any vegetation requiring regular irritation shall be placed over the area. Until vegetation is reestablished, erosion and sediment control measures shall be implemented and maintained on site. The owner of the OWTS shall be responsible for maintaining proper vegetation cover. OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE The property owner shall be responsible for the operation and maintenance of each OWTS servicing the property. The property owner is responsible for maintaining service contracts for manufactured units, alternating STAB, and any other components needing maintenance. Geo -fabrics or plastics should not be used over the STA. No heavy equipment, machinery, or materials should be placed on backfilled STA. Livestock should not graze on the STA. Plumbing fixtures should be checked to ensure that no additional water is being discharged to OWTS. For example, a running toilet or leaky faucet can discharge hundreds of gallons of water a day and harm a STA. The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years, or as needed gauged by measurement of solids in the tank. Garbage disposal use should be minimized, and non -biodegradable materials should not be placed into the OWTS. Grease should not be placed in household drains. Loading from a water softener should not be discharged into the OWTS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWTS. Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWTS. The OWTS is engineered for domestic waste only. ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES If design includes a pump, air release valves and weep holes must be installed to allow pump lines to drain to minimize risk of freezing. The pump shall be connected to a control breaker separate from the high water alarm breaker and from any other control system circuits. Excavation equipment must not drive in excavation of the STA due to the potential to compact soil. Extensions should be placed on all septic tank components to allow access to them from existing grade. Backfill over the STA must be uniform and granular with no material greater than minus 3 -inch. INSTALLATION OBSERVATIONS ALL SERVICE septic, LLC must view the OWTS during construction. The OWTS observation should be performed before backfill, after placement of OWTS components. Septic tanks, distribution devices, pumps, dosing siphons, and other plumbing, as applicable, must also be observed. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified 48 hours in advance to observe the installation. Page 4 LIMITS: The design is based on information submitted.
