There were revisions to our original design dated October 3rd 2008, due to a change in the bedroom count from 5 to 4 total bedrooms. The installation included the existing 1000 -gallon, single -compartment, septic tank with an effluent filter, followed by a 1250 -gallon two-compartment septic tank with a dosing siphon. The drain field consisted of 5 gravelless chamber trenches, with each trench having between 9 and 22 `Quick -4' chambers. The total new infiltrative area is 711 SF. Serial distribution will distribute effluent throughout the trenches. The OWTS was generally installed according to specifications. This observation is not a guarantee of workmanship and/or parts and materials. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified if changes are made to the OWTS. LIMITS: The observation was based on information submitted and our site visit. If conditions are different from conditions described in this letter, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All additional OWTS construction must be according to the county regulations. The installer should have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working. Sincerely, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC Timothy R. Eric, thanks for your feedback on the overflow in the center of the trench. I have attached Carla on this email, so we can all chat. As I understand we need to utilize the end plates for the overflow pipes, therefore we need to add end plates in the center of the trench. The trench will be installed with end plates in the center, then an overflow pipe to continue trench, then overflow pipe to last trench. Does that make sense Eric and Carla? The property is located outside of Aspen Colorado, in an area where OWS are necessary. SITE CONDITIONS The current single-family residence is being re -constructed to a 4 -bedroom residence. A 1 -bedroom CDU exists. There is an existing drain field that will be abandoned, although the existing 1250 -gallon septic tank will be incorporated into the new OWS design. The proposed drain field area slopes 10 percent to the north, and vegetation consists of a full cover of native plants, sage and junipers. SUBSURFACE The subsurface was investigated by digging one profile pit and three percolation holes, as indicated. The materials encountered in the profile pit consisted of 1 -foot of a clayey root zone, underlain by sandy clay to 6.5 feet, underlain by highly fractured Mancos Shale Bedrock to the maximum depth explored of 8 feet. Groundwater was not encountered. Percolation rates ranged from 27 to 40 minutes per inch (MPI). A 32 MPI rate will be used to design the OWS. DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS The OWTS design is based on 4 -bedrooms for the main residence and 1 -bedroom for the CDU, and an average sewage load of 750 GPD. The installation must the include the existing 1250 -gallon two- compartment concrete septic tank with the addition of a dosing siphon in the second compartment, and a new 1000 -gallon, single -compartment, precast concrete septic tank with an effluent filter on the outlet. The 1000 -gallon septic tank is to be placed up -gradient of the existing tank. Tank alternatives Subsurface Investigation and Upgrade OWS Design Project No. 1194 10/03/08 Page 2 may be considered. Five gravelless chamber trenches, using `Quick -4' InfiltratorTM chambers, must be installed as indicated. The trenches must have 22, 24, 20, 15, and 10 chambers respectively, for a total number of chambers of 91, equaling 899 SF of infiltrative area. Serial distribution must be used to distribute effluent. Construction must be according to the Pitkin County Environmental Health and Natural Resources Department OWTS regulations, the OWTS Construction Permit provided by Pitkin County Environmental Health and Natural Resources Department, and this design. OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE The surface of the drain field should be seeded upon completion. Vegetation is an important factor in drain field performance. Erosion control should be practiced prior to and during re -vegetation. Geo - fabrics or plastics should not be used over the drain field. Livestock should not graze on the drain field. Plumbing fixtures should be checked to ensure that no additional water is being discharged to OWTS. For Example, a running toilet or leaky faucet can discharge hundreds of gallons of water a day and harm a drain field. The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years and clean the effluent filter as needed. Garbage disposal use should be minimized, and non -biodegradable materials should not be placed into the OWTS. Grease should not be placed in household drains. Loading from a water softener should not be discharged into the OWTS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWTS. Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWS. The OWTS is engineered for domestic waste only. ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES If design includes a pump, air release valves and weep holes should be installed to allow pump lines to drain to minimize risk of freezing. Excavation equipment must not drive in excavation of drain field due to the potential to compact soil. Extensions should be placed on all septic tank components to allow access to them from existing grade. Precast concrete tanks and distribution boxes should be used, unless plastic or fiberglass is required. Access to all tank compartments and distribution devices is optimal. INSTALLATION OBSERVATIONS ALL SERVICE septic, LLC, and the county must view the OWS during construction. The OWTS observation should be performed before backfill, after placement of chambers and distribution pipes. Septic tanks, distribution devices, pumps, dosing siphons, and other plumbing, as applicable, must also be observed. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified 48 hours in advance to observe the installation. I ! . 11 Onsite Wastewater Systems Page 3 LIMITS: The design is based on information submitted. If soil conditions encountered are different from conditions described in report, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All OWS construction must be according to the county regulations. Requirements not specified in this report must follow county regulations. The installer should have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working. Please call with questions.
