Septic permit approved per compliance with the engineer design and specifications dated September 1, 2004. Any
changes must be approved by this department and the design engineer prior to them being made.
Minimum horizontal distances between components of the system and physical features shall conform to the Pitkin County
ISDS regulations. There must be a minimum of 244 feet from the field to any well, and 194 feet from the filed to any
stream or irrigation ditch.
This system will consist of one 2000 gallon single compartment tank followed by the existing 1500 gallon tank with the
addition of an effluent filter. The effluent will go to concrete distribution box with a baffle and be distributed to 7 trenches
with 15 chambers in each trench. There should be 6 feet of undisturbed soil between each trench. The fields cl
ffeed�'o�ff to pro ect it from horse traffic. The field area should also be re -vegetated with native grasses. Existing field
sho" ul be.properly abandoned and the existing tank should be pumped and inspected to verify the integrity.

This department does not endorse any brand of products. This permit must be kept on-site during installation. The
engineer must do a final inspection of the installation and submit an as -built letter to this department. This department
must also be called for an inspection with a minimum of 48 hours advanced notice.

The fee for a ISDS application is $600 for a permit that takes 6 hours or less for the department to approve. If approval takes
longer than 6 hours, a rate of $100 per hour will be charged. The maximum fee is $1000. The basic fee of $600 is due at the
time of application. The remainder, if any, will be due in two stages: first, at the time of issuance of the ISDS permit; second,
before final approval of the ISDS permit.

As requested, we have prepared a revised onsite wastewater system (OWS) repair design for the existing
main barn. Revisions are based on '

SITE CONDITIONS
The property is in a rural area of Pitkin County, where OWS are required. The proposed drain field area has
a 1% to 3% slope to the east and ater is provided to the
site by an onsite well located 244+ feet from the drain field.

SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS
The subsurface investigation was performed by digging three percolation holes, 19 to 36 inches deep, and
one test pit at the locations indicated on Figure 1. Subsurface materials in the profile pit consisted of clayey
sand with occasional alluvial cobbles to th . ��111was
encountered. Percolation tests indicate percolation rates of 23 to 40 minutes per inch (MPI). The average

The installation requires a septic tank and a gravelless chamber -trench drain field as presented on
Figure 2. The OWS design is based on an average sewage load of 1600 GPD and a percolation rate of

Vehicle movement over the drain field area during construction should be restricted to minimize
compaction of the receiving soils. The bottom of the bed should be scarified with a pick, shovel, or
backhoe bucket teeth prior to the addition of chambers.
The surface of the field should be seeded after installation of the fields.
, mutt These mixes do not require irrigation and develop a growth 10 to
15 inches high. No automatic sprinkler system should be installed over the fields.
OPERATION ANIS MAINTENANCE
The owner must realize an OWS is different from public sewer service. The owner must be aware of
and assume responsibility for maintenance of the system. In the absence of a monitoring program, the
septic tank should be pumped every two years. Effluent filter and screened vaults, as applicable, are to
be cleaned during pumping. There are daily considerations such as not putting plastic or other nonbio-
degradable materials into the septic system. Garbage disposal use should be minimized.
The backwash of a water softener may be harmful to the OWS. A separate drywell should be constructed
for the backwash waste, if a softener is installed. Chemically treated water from a swimming pool or spas
should not be introduced to the OWS.
LEMHATIONS
A contractor who is experienced in OWS installation should install an OWS design. Our investigation,
layout, design and recommendations are based on data submitted. If subsurface conditions different from
those described in this report are encountered, we should be notified to evaluate the change on the proposed
OWS. If the health department modifies this design, we should be contacted to evaluate the impact on the
performance of the OWS. The county and our firm must be contacted upon completion of the OWS
All construction is to be in accordance with the ISDS regulations. Pipe type and size, burial requirements,
septic tank construction, and other specifications, which are not depicted in our report, are to conform to
the requirements of the ISDS regulations. The installer of the system is to have demonstrated knowledge of
the PCEHD ISDS regulations and requirements.
