The fee for a ISDS application is $600 for a permit that takes 6 hours or less for the department to approve. If approval takes
longer than 6 hours, a rate of $100 per hour will be charged. The maximum fee is $1000. The basic fee of $600 is due at the
time of application. The remainder, if any, will be due in two stages: first, at the time of issuance of the ISDS permit; second,
before final approval of the ISDS permit.
Application for an individual sewage disposal system is hereby submitted. I hereby certify that the above information is true and
accurate and that I have provided true and accurate information on locations of all existing and proposed wells, contour
intervals, buildings, property lines, ditches, slopes, waterlines, springs, suction or irrigation lines, drinking water cisterns, drain

any such features not shown on attached site map are not present. Issuance of the permit does not imply the approval of any
other permit required for construction pursuant to Pitkin County codes. No construction may be undertaken until all approvals

ALL SERVICE septic, LLC performed an installation observation on August 15th, August 29th and
October I Oth 2007 for the subject property.
The installation included a 1500 -gallon, single -compartment co tic tank, followed by a
1000 -gallon, two-compartment septic tank with the additionof efflue on the outlet, followed by
5 gravelless trenches. Each trench consisted of 24 chambers per c for a total of 120 chambers,
equaling 1185 SF of infiltrative area. Effluent will be distributed with a concrete distribution box
with a baffle.
The OWS was installed according to specifications. This observation is not a guarantee of
workmanship and/or parts and materials. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified if changes
are made to the OWS.
LIMITS:
The observation was based on information submitted and our site visit. If conditions are different
from conditions described in this letter, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All additional
OWS construction must be according to the county regulations. The installer should have
documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which
they are working.

Onsite Wastewater System Design, Proposed Residence and ADU

ALL SERVICE septic, LLC has performed a subsurface investigation and prepared an onsite
wastewater system (OWS) design for the subject residence. A subsurface investigation was
performed by H.P. Geotech on August 18, 2000 and presented in a report under Job No. 100 623.This
report has been included as Appendix A. The percolation test was performed on September 5, 2006.
The property is located in near Aspen, Colorado, in an area where OWS are necessary. This letter is
to be used in conjunction with plans provided.
SITE CONDITIONS
A four-bedroom residence and a one -bedroom ADU with a total living area less than 6000 ft2 are
proposed at the site as indicated on plans provided. The slope at the proposed drain field area is
approximately 25% to 30% to the northeast. Vegetation consists of a full cover of native grasses with
moderate scrub oak and serviceberry. Water is provided to the site by the local water district.
SUBSURFACE
The subsurface was investigated by drilling an exploratory boring near the proposed drain field location
as shown on the attached plans. Subsurface conditions reported consisted of sandy, clay fill to 1 foot,
underlain by sandy clay to 21 feet, underlain by weathered claystone bedrock to 25 feet, underlain by
claystone bedrock to the maximum depth explored of 31 feet. Groundwater was not encountered.
Subsurface conditions can be verified by nearby road cuts. Pitkin County Environmental Health
Department may require a test pit prior to installation. Five percolation holes were dug. Percolation rates
ranged from 32 to 53 minutes per inch (MPI) with an average rate of 44 MPI.
DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS
The OWS design is based on 5 bedrooms, an average sewage load of 1000 GPD, and a percolation
rate of 44 MPI. The installation must include a 1500 -gallon, single -compartment, concrete septic tank
with an effluent filter on the outlet followed by a 1000 -gallon, two-compartment, concrete septic tank

with an effluent pump in the second compartment. Tank alternatives may be considered. A pump
with a total flow rate of 20 GPM and a total dynamic head of 17.7 feet is required. Pump
specification have been included. Five gravelless chamber -trenches must be"stalled as indicated on
plans provided. Five rows of 24 `Quick 4' chambers, for a total of 120 chambers and 1176 ft2 of
infiltrative area are required. The drain field may be reconfigured to preserve vegetation and to
conform to topography. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be contacted to make any necessary
adjustments to the drain field. A concrete distribution box with a baffle should be used to distribute
effluent. Construction must be according to the county ISDS regulations, the septic permit provided by
Pitkin County Environmental Health Department, and this design.
OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE
The surface of the drain field should be seeded upon completion. Vegetation is an important factor in
drain field performance. Geo -fabrics or plastics should not be used over the drain field. Livestock
should not graze on the drain field. Plumbing fixtures should be checked to ensure that no additional
water is being discharged to OWS. For Example, a running toilet or leaky faucet can discharge
hundreds of gallons of water a day and harm a drain field.
The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years and clean the effluent filter as needed.
Garbage disposal use should be minimized, and non -biodegradable materials should not be placed
into the OWS. Grease should not be placed in household drains. Loading from a water softener
should not be discharged into the OWS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWS.
Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWS. The OWS is engineered for domestic
waste only. If easements have been encroached upon, it is the homeowner's responsibility to
understand potential issues. We can be contacted for information regarding easements.
ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES
If design includes a pump, air release valves and weep holes should be installed to allow pump lines
to drain to minimize risk of freezing. Excavation equipment must not drive in excavation of drain
field due to the potential to compact soil. Extensions should be placed on all septic tank components
to allow access to them from existing grade. Precast concrete tanks and distribution boxes should be
used, unless plastic or fiberglass is required. Septic tank risers should extend to grade. Access to all
tank compartments and distribution devices is optimal.
INSTALLATION OBSERVATIONS
ALL SERVICE septic, LLC, and the county must view the OWS during construction. The OWS
observation should be performed before backfill, after placement of chambers and distribution pipes.
Septic tanks, distribution devices, pumps, dosing siphons, and other plumbing, as applicable, must
also be observed. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified 48 hours in advance to observe the
installation.
LIMITS:
The design is based on information submitted. If soil conditions encountered are different from
conditions described in report, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All OWS construction
must be according to the county regulations. Requirements not specified in this report must follow
OWS Design

SUBSUJRFACE CONDITIONS
Graphic logs of the subsurface conditions encownered at the site are shown on
Fig. 2_ Below about 1 foot of fill mater: als for constmtdion of the driveway, the
subsoils consist of vera- stiff to hard s2ndy clay. At a depth of about 22 to 25 feet,
ciaystone bedrock was enmuntered. The upper 3;6 to 4 feet of the bedrock was
weathered. Drilling refusal was encountered in the claystone at depths of 31 and 33 feet
due to the hardness and possible cemented conditim o, the bedrock. The soils
eaco-antered in the borings are similar to the soils encountered at other nearby lots. The
stiff to hard clays can possess an expansion. potential when wetted.
Laboratory testing performed on samples obtained during the field explo. ation
included natural moistuze content and density, Atxerberg limits and finer than sand size
gradation analyses. Swell -consolidation testing was performed on relatively undisturbed
drive samples of the clay subsoils. The swell -consolidation test rmilts, presented -on
Figs. 4 through 6, indicate low compressibility under relatively light surcharge loading
and a high expansion potential when wetted under a constant light surcharge. Swelling
pressures between 15,000 psf and 30,000 psf were indicated. The very bard c12ystone
bedrock is not expected to be expansive. The laboratory tag is summarized in
Table 1.
No free water was encountered in the borings at the time of drilling or when
checked on October 31, 2 W- The subsoils were slightly moist to moist.
FOUNDATION BEARILNG CONDITIONS
The clay subsoils encountered at the site are highly expansive. Shallow
foundations p1,a;ced on the expwnsive soils similar to those encountered at this site can
expenence movement causing structural distress if the clay soil is subjected to changes
in moisture Content_ A drilled pier foundation can be used to penetrate the eiTansive
materials to plaev tate bottom of the piers in a zone of relatively stable moisture
conditions and make it palm-ble to load the pies sufficiently to resist uplift movements.
