Re: Visual Inspection April 28, 1981 File No. 39014 -GS Lot 7, Block 3, Brush Creek Village Snowmass Village, Colorado Dear Mr. Igelhart: The foundation excavation at the site referenced above has been inspected by personnel of this laboratory to determine subsurface soil,conditions°l-1owing are recommendations -for this site: Soil Classification: The soils ori this site are quite variable, ranging.from dark gray Mancos Shale to light brown clays de -rive -d from the Mancos Shale. These soils have moderate to high expansive properties. Average bearing values of the soil are 5000 psf maximum and 3500 psf minimum on the clays. Man -Made Fill: None --all soils are native to the site. Moisture Conditions at Time of Inspection: Low. Expansion Potential: Moderate to high --an expansion pressure of 1465 psf with 5.71/0 volume change and 23.2/ moisture increase was determined by laboratory test. ` Foundation _yT pe Recommended: The no footing foundation system with the stem wall resting directly on the soil is recommended. Voids may be required. A balanced foundation design is recom- mended. Reinforcing: The foundation should be reinforced as sho m- on the foundation design. 602 East 8th Street P.O. See detail sheet. Proper surface drainage is important.. No water: should bo allowed to stand near the house. Floor slabs should be separated from all, structural members and allowed to float freely.. Type II Cement should be used in contact with the ground. Additional #5 rebars should be placed at 45 at any steps in the foundation wall, and all reinforcing should have a minimum lap of 15 inches. A percolation test was performed in the septic system disposal area. No free water or bedrock was encountered within 10 feet of the ground surface. The average percolation rate from three test holes was found to be 50 minutes per inch. If questions a -se, , please feel free to contact the office at your convn ence.
