Attn: Jan Stenstadvold 0256 Twining Flats Road Aspen, Colorado 81611 OCT 17 2005 PITKIN COUNTY ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH Installation Observation, Proposed CDU 1525 Star Mesa Drive Pitkin County, Colorado Mr. Stenstadvold, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC performed installation observations on August 24 and September 14, 2005 for the subject property. The installation included one 1000 -gallon, two-compartment concrete septic tank with a pump in a BiotubeTM pump vault in the second compartment followed by 434 ft2 of drain field. The drain field consisted of two rows of nine gravelless chambers and one row of 10 gravelless chambers, for a total of 28 chambers. Use of Biodiff iserTM chambers was approved by our office and meet the design requirements. The drain field as installed has less infiltrative area than was specified in our design; however, the drain field exceeds the minimum area required by PCEHD Regulations and no modifications are required. A concrete distribution box with a baffle was installed to distribute effluent. The OWS was installed according to specifications. This observation is not a guarantee of workmanship and/or parts and materials. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified if changes are made to the OWS. Please call with questions. Attn: Jan Stenstadvold 0256 Twining Flats Road Aspen, Colorado 81611 Project No. 1072 Subsurface Investigation and Onsite Wastewater System Design, Proposed CDU f25 Sh r Masa Dnve- Pitkin County, Colorado Mr. Stenstadvold, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC performed a percolation test and an onsite wastewater system (OWS) design for the subject residence. The property is located in Star Mesa, in an area where OWS are necessary. This letter is to be used in conjunction with plans provided. SITE CONDITIONS A two-bedroom caretaker unit (CDU) with a living area less than 2000 ft2 is proposed on the subject site. The proposed drain field area has a 1% to 3% slope to the west, and a full cover of native grasses with scattered bushes and scrub oak. Water is provided by an onsite well located greater than 100 feet northeast of the proposed drain field area. SUBSURFACE The subsurface was investigated by excavating an 8 -foot test pit near the proposed drain field location as shown on attached plans. The test pit indicated the site has a 6 -inch root zone, underlain by sandy clay with sparse gravel to 3 feet, underlain by clayey sand with cobbles and gravel to the maximum depth explored of 8 feet. Groundwater or bedrock was not encountered. The percolation test was performed by digging three percolation holes ranging in depth from 31 to 38 inches. The percolation test yielded percolation rates from 40 to 53 minutes per inch (MPI) with an average rate of 44 MPI. DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS The OWS design is based on 2 bedrooms (4 people), an average daily sewage load of 300 GPD, and a percolation rate of 44 MPI. The installation must include a 1000 -gallon, two-compartment, concrete septic tank with a BiotubeTM pump vault in the second compartment. A gravelless chamber -trench drain field must be installed as indicated on plans provided. Three rows of 17 Infiltrator® Quick4TM • X chambers, for a total of 51 chambers and 499.8 ft2 of infiltrative area, are required must be according to the county ISDS regulations, the septic permit provided by Environmental Health Department, and this design. OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE OWS Design Project No. 1072 Page 2 Construction Pitkin County The surface of the drain field should be seeded upon completion. Vegetation is an important factor in drain field performance. Geo -fabrics or plastics should not be used over the drain field. Livestock should not graze on the drain field. Plumbing fixtures should be checked to ensure that no additional water is being discharged to OWS. For Example, a running toilet or leaky faucet can discharge hundreds of gallons of water a day and harm a drain field. The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years and clean the effluent filter as needed. Garbage disposal use should be minimized, and non -biodegradable materials should not be placed into the OWS. Grease should not be placed in household drains. Loading from a water softener should not be discharged into the OWS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWS. Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWS. The OWS is engineered for domestic waste only. INSTALLATION OBSERVATIONS ALL SERVICE septic, LLC, and the county must view the OWS during construction. The OWS observation should be performed before backfill, after placement of chambers and distribution pipes. Septic tanks, distribution devices, pumps, dosing siphons, and other plumbing, as applicable, must also be observed. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified 48 hours in advance to observe the installation. LIMITS: The design is based on information submitted. If soil conditions encountered are different from conditions described in report, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All OWS construction must be according to the county regulations. Requirements not specified in this report must follow county regulations. The installer should have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working. Please call with questions.
