Septic permit approved per compliance with the engineer design and specifications dated revised 7/19/04. Any
changes must be approved by this department and the design engineer prior to them being made. Minimum
horizontal distances between components of the system and physical features shall conform to the Pitkin County
ISDS regulations.
The design is to use the existing 1,000 gallon septic tank for the Historic Cabin and add an effluent filter to the
outlet. The Ranch Manager House will use the existing 1,000 gallon septic tank and a second 1,500 gallon concrete
tank will be added in series. An effluent filter is required on the outlet of the second tank. Effluent will be piped
under the county road to a common gravelless chamber bed 7 chambers wide by 9 chambers long.
This department does not endorse any brand of products. This permit must be kept on-site during installation.
The engineer must do a final inspection of the installation and submit an as -built letter to this department. This
department must also be called for an inspection with a minimum of 48 hours advanced notice.
'Revegetation over the area of the field is very important for the functioning of the system. Pitkin County has guidelines that must be
followed to assure the plants that are introduced are appropriate for the conditions of the area. The use of native plants is strongly
encouraged.

Plans and specifications of the proposed individual sewage disposal system have been reviewed and are considered
satisfactory. Permission is hereby granted to the owner or the agent to perform the work indicated in accordance with the Pitkin
County ISDS Regulation in effect at the time of issue. This permit becomes invalid 6 months from the date that the permit was
issued unless system construction has commenced or an extension has been approved in writing by the Department.
As -built drawings must be included with this permit before the final approval will be issued.

Jeff Gerbaz called about the straw bail house. He said he didn't see that the engineer has speced the EQ -
36 until he had already ordered the standard. I told him they were both so close, he should call the
engineer to see of there was any other REASON he called for the EQ 36, but he is out of town. He will
use between 14-16 standard units. I also think he said they may have room for one row.
I also noticed in playing with the numbers that on the calcs, #4, he using 9 1/2? instead of 12 for the perc
rate. Maybe I'm not seeing something. He also used 15.5 instead of 15.965, which in the big picture I
don't think will matter at all. But I think it's strange that he called for EQ- 36 but did sizing for standard
and it seems he figured square footage wrong.

The septics have been given final approval for both the STRAWBALE HOUSE, MAIN RESIDENCE, &
RANCH MANAGER HOUSE/HISTORIC CABIN.
So it is okay to give them CO's on all the buildings. The old 'bunkhouse' had all plumbing and sewer
connection removed, so we have no concerns with that structure.

Main Residence
Dear Environmental Health:
The ISDS for the above residence has been inspected and is in proper operating condition. The
bunkhouse that was attached to this system has been eliminated from the system by removing the
plumbing inside the bunkhouse and plugging the sewer line with concrete. An effluent filter was not
installed due to the difficulty in accessing the existing tanks and not being able to retrofit the effluent
pump with a filter.

The installation of the ISDS for the above residence has been completed and has been installed in
accordance with applicable county specifications and the approved plan with the exception of the type
of infiltrator unit. The units were changed to the H-10 style and the quantity was changed per a
conversation the contractor, Stutsman-Gerbaz, had with your department and your recommendations
for the new quantity. Revised calculations are shown on the as -built plan. Enclosed is the as -built
drawing for the system.

Subject: Percolation Testing, Proposed Septic Disposal Systems, Flying Dog
Ranch, 3045 Woody Creek Road, Pitkin County, Colorado.
Dear Mr. Powell:
As requested, Hepworth - Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc., performed percolation testing at
the subject site. The testing was done in accordance with our agreement for
professional services to Timberline Engineering, dated April 15, 2004.
10 Two profile pits and seven percolation test holes were excavated prior to our arrival on-
site at the locations shown on Figure 1. The subsoils exposed in the profile pits
consisted of about '/2 foot of topsoil and 1 to 1'h feet of slightly sandy to sandy clay and
silt overlying silty sandy gravel with cobbles and boulders to the pit depths of 9% and
10 feet. No free water was observed in the pits and the soils were slightly moist to
moist. Percolation test holes were hand dug in the bottom of the shallow backhoe pits
and soaked with water on April 19, 2004.
Percolation testing was conducted on April 20, 2004, by a representative of Hepworth -
Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc. The percolation test results are summarized on Table 1.
Area A showed infiltration rates between 8 and 17 minutes per inch with an average of
12 minutes per inch. Area B showed infiltration rates between 8 and 10 minutes per
inch with an average of 9 minutes per inch. Based on the subsurface conditions
encountered and the percolation test results, the tested areas should be suitable for a
Oconventional infiltration septic disposal system. Pitkin County requires that a
professional engineer design the septic disposal system.
