Main Street Aspen, CO 81611 Attention: Mr. Bruce Hazzard Subject: Percolation Test Results Brattleborro Parcel/Blum Residence Star Mesa Subdivision Aspen, Colorado Job No. GS -2131 Gentlemen: As requested, we performed percolation tests at the Brattleboro Parcel/Blum Residence, Star Mesa Subdivision in Aspen, Colorado. This letter describes soils found and presents the results of our tests. We drilled one set of three percolation borings (P-7 through P-9) to approximately 4 feet deep and one profile boring (Profile No. 3) to approximately 10 feet deep at locations shown on Figure 1. Below an organic topsoil we found a medium stiff, moist clay with scattered gravels. Below the clays in our profile boring and percolation boring we found silty to clayey gravels with cobble and boulder. We performed percolation testing on May 16, 1997 in percolation borings drilled on May 12, 1997 and saturated the day before the tests were performed. Test results are presented on the attached Figures 3 through 5. We recommend a design percolation rate of 20 minutes/inch. We appreciate the opportunity to work with you on this project. At this time, only water level data are available from you for a test conducted at 15 gallons per minute (gpm)_ For more detailed analyses, a driller's log of rhe well and topo wrap showing the well location will eventually be needed_ The attached drawdown data plot has somewhat less drawdown than expected at later times, which indicates that rhe well obtains some of its water by means of leakage from an adjacent confining bed into the aquifer_ Over the long term, this leakage may balance the volumes of water withdrawn from the well_ If leakage does not meet or exceed the volumes pumped, ground water mining and long-term water level declines resuq_ We suggest that Static water levels be Checked at least annually in order to monitor this condition, and to provide an early warning to possible well and/or pump problems, At 15 gpm, the well had a pumping water level of 303.2 feet below ground surface and about 108 feet of drawdown at the end of the 24 hour test_ It experienced 95+% recovery within 4 hours after the pumping stopped_ A trartsmissmty value of 10.7 tt^21d resulted from test data analysis, and a leakage (beta) factor of 0.06 for the Hantush (1960) model Wsed on the 24 hour results, a pumping water level of about 370 feet below ground surface would result from 1 year's pumping at 15 gpm.
