August,24, 1978 M,. Ford Sheuman President, Starwood . Homeowner's Association P.O. Box 10246 Aspen, CO 81611 Re: Lot C-1, Starwood Subdivision Dear Mr. Sheuman This letter is to confirm our telephone conversation of August 23, 1978, regarding a site inspection of the referenced lot for the purpose of determining the suitability of an individual sewage disposal system to serve a proposed three bedroom, two bath, employee residence on this property. As we discussed, the preliminary investigation revealed that it would ° be difficult to construct a conventional septic tank -absorption field on this lot in compliance with Pitkin County regulations. Detailed below are some of the reasons that have led us to this conclusion. 1. There is a limited level area on the site once a house is constructed. 2. Excavation cuts in the immediate vicinity reveal a tight clay soil with limited permeability. We would suspect that percolation tests would reveal a rate in excess of that allowable for such an installation. 3. Extension of an absorption system to areas of the lot beyond that in the immediate vicinity of the access raod does not appear to be possible due to steep slopes and historic drainage patterns. 4. Crossing the access road to the water supply system does not appear a satisfactory solution due to the presence of groundwater in the Spring, and to the fact that the subdivision water supply is downstream in the same historical drainage pattern. The possibility does exist that if a sewage disposal system were located in this area the springs could become contaminated. If you have any further questions, please contact me at my office.
