Minimum horizontal distances between components of the system and physical features shall conform to the Pitkin County ISDS regulations. Design is for a 1,000 gallon two-compartment concrete septic tank and one trench of 12 infiltrator units. This department does not endorse any brand of products. This permit must be kept on-site during installation. The engineer must do a final inspection of the installation and submit an as -built letter to this department. This department must also be called for an inspection with a minimum of 48 hours advanced notice. Permit approved by: Date: y - Plans and specifications of the pro osed individual sewage disposal system have been reviewed and are considered satisfactory. Permission is hereby granted to the owner or the agent to perform the work indicated in accordance with the Pitkin County ISDS Regulation in effect at the time of issue. This permit becomes invalid 6 months from the date that the permit was issued unless system construction has commenced or an extension has been approved in writing by the Department. As -built drawings must be included with this permit before the final approval will be issued. Installer: Final inspection approval: - a << %.- 1,,t-z r- Date: J CHURCH October 22, 2001 Dana Epstein 952 Trentaz Drive Aspen, Colorado 81611 Associates, ENGINEERS & GEOLOGISTS Subject: Revised OWS Design, Existing Construction Office Lot R8 -A, Starwood Village 952 Trentaz Drive Pitkin County, Colorado Job No. 13287W Mr. Epstein, As requested, we have investigated subsurface conditions and designed an onsite wastewater system (OWS) design for the existing construction office. The subsurface investigation was performed on October 16, 2001. SITE CONDITIONS The property is located in a rural residential area in Pitkin County where OWS are required. There is a main residence, a barn, a barn house, and a proposed pool house/solarium located on the property as indicated on Figure 1. The existing structures have separate OWS. The proposed drain field area for the construction office slopes approximately 20% to the northwest. There is a moderate cover of grass and scrub oak at the proposed field area. The local water district will serve the construction office. PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION The location of the construction office with one toilet and one sink is presented on Figure 1. The OWS has been sized for six people per an agreement with Aspen/Pitkin Environmental Health Department (APEHD). The average sewage loading is 175.2 gallons/per/day (GPD) using APEHD loading regulations of 24.8 GPD for a toilet and 4.4 GPD for a sink. The sewage loading with a peaking factor of 1.75 is 306.6 GPD. SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS The subsurface investigation was performed by digging one profile pit and three percolation holes, 34 to 41 inches deep, at the locations indicated on Figure 1. Subsurface materials consisted of 1 foot of sandy topsoil, underlain by sandy clay with rock fragments to the maximum depth explored of 10 feet. No ground water was encountered. Percolation tests indicate percolation rates of 16 to 40 minutes per inch (MPI). The average percolation rate is 32 MPI. Percolation data is presented in Table 1. RECOMMENDATIONS The OWS installation is to include a septic tank and two chamber -trenches installed at the location presented on Figure 1. The O`VS design is based on an average sewage load of 175.2 GPD and a percola- tion rate of 32 MPI. One 1000 -gallon, two-compartment, precast concrete septic tank with an eluent filter DENVER 4501 Wadsworth Boulevard Wheat Ridge, CO 80033 CASTLE ROCK 303.660.4358 303.463.9317 Fax: 303.463.9321 EVERGREEN 303.816.1455 LOVELAND 970.663.2124 (40 DWS Design, Construction Office Job No. 13287W Page 2 on the outlet of the second compartment and two chamber -trenches with a total of 12 chambers must be installed. A flow splitter basin is required to distribute effluent evenly throughout the field. Vehicle movement over the drain field trench area during construction should be kept at a minimum to minimize compaction of the receiving soils. The bottom of the trenches should be scarified with a pick, shovel, or backhoe bucket teeth prior to the addition of chambers. The surface of the field should be seeded ager installation of the trenches. A native seed mix available at seed stores should be sown. These mixes do not require irrigation and develop a growth 10 to 15 inches high. No automatic sprinkler system should be installed over the fields. OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE The owner must realize an OWS is different from public sewer service. The owner must be aware of and assume responsibility for maintenance of the OWS. In the absence of a monitoring program, the septic tank should be pumped every two years. The effluent filter should be cleaned during pumping. There are daily considerations such as not putting plastic or other nonbiodegradable materials into the septic system. Garbage disposal use should be minimized. Backwash from water softeners may be harmful to OWS. A separate drywell should be constructed for the backwash waste, if a softener is installed. Chemically treated water should not be introduced to the OWS. LIMITATIONS An OWS design should be installed by an experience OWS contractor. Our investigation, layout, design and recommendations are based on data submitted. If subsurface conditions different from those described in this report are encountered, we should be notified to evaluate the effect on the proposed OWS. If the health department makes modifications to this design, we should be contacted to evaluate the impact on the performance of the OWS. —1 county and our firm must be contacted to observe installation of the OWS. All construction is to be in accordance with the ISDS regulations. Pipe type and size, burial requirements, septic tank construction, and other specifications, which are not depicted in our report, are to conform to the requirements of the ISDS regulations. The installer of the system is to have demonstrated knowledge of the APEHD ISDS regulations and requirements. If there are questions or if we can be of further assistance, please call.
