All materials, installation practices, setbacks, etc. shall conform to Pitkin County Individual Sewage System Regulations. 2. Sand shall be medium texture sand. (100% of the material shall pass the No. 4 sieve.) > 25% 0.25-2.00 mm < 30-35% 0.05-0.25 mm > 5-10% 0.002-0.05 mm The Engineer may require that a gradation analysis be certify that the material proposed meets this specification. 3. The Contractor and Owner shall take whatever measures are necessary to assure that (a) the septic tank and sewer lines are completely water -tight to prevent infiltration of groundwater into the system, and (b) the system is to be installed to prevent freezing of gravity sewer lines. 4. The County Engineer shall be notified when construction commences so that the system can be inspected at regular intervals to assure conformance with these plans. 5. If the last hole, based on 30 inch spacing, is equal to or greater than 15 inches from the end of the lateral, put another hole in the end cap of the pipe or close to it. 6. Stone shall be 3/4" to 2 1/2" crushed rock. 7. The area disturbed by construction shall be reseeded with native grasses to prevent erosion. 8. Use risers as needed to bring septic tank access hatch within 6" of finished grade. 9. The following preventative maintenance schedule is recommended to prolong the life of the system: (a) Pump septic tanks once a year. (b) Check plumbing fixtures on a regular basis and repair all leaks which can add substantial amounts of water to the system. 10. Cast iron pipe or pipe of equal strength or other pipe properly supported to prevent failure by settling shall extend from septic for a distance of at least five (5) feet from the inlet and outlet ends. 11. Site map supplied by Owner (supplemented by Engineer). 12. No traffic allowed on the proposed disposal field 13. It is the Contractor's responsibility to verify all locations of utilities that may affect location of facilities drawn. Verification is to be made with Owner and affected utility company. 14. Substitution of materials is acceptable (i.e., pipe, tanks, etc.), as long as verifications and acceptance with Engineer or the Environmental Health Officer is made. 15. The location and elevation of the house is shown schematic. It is paramount that verification of sewer line location and elevation be checked with building plans prior to construction. DESIC? CALCULATIONS 1. Determine flaw to field (average daily). 3 bedrooms QroQosed 2 persons per bedroom 75 gallons per person per day Total bedrecros = 5 4 = (4) (2) (7/ 5) = 600 gpd 2. Percolation rate frcm field data, using 6 MPI. Allowable loading rate = 0.95 gallons per day per S.F. (assu-ned use of a garbage grinder) 3. For a four bedroom home, septic tank capacity is 1250 gallons. 4. Calculate field size: A = 1.95 (600) - 0.055 (600) 0.95 A = 1231.58 - 33 A = 1198.58 S.F.
