The absorption area did not show any signs of failure or surfacing effluent, there were no observation ports to check for standing effluent in the chambers. The permit and record drawing was provided by Pitkin County Environmental Health Department (Parcel ID # 2643-26402-011). The subject OWTS consists of one 2000 -gallon, single - compartment concrete septic tank followed by one 1250 -gallon, two-compartment concrete septic tank with a duplex pump system and an Orenco® Biotube filter in the second compartment. The absorption area consists of two separate areas; one area consists of four gravelless chamber beds installed in 1999, and the other area consists of three trenches installed in 1993. The septic tanks appeared to be in good condition. There was no accumulation of scum and 8 to10- inches of sludge present in the 2000 -gallon tank. There was no accumulation of scum of sludge in the 1250 -gallon tank. Pumping at this time is not necessary. The inlet and outlet tees on the 2000 -gallon tank were not visible from the manhole lids. A camera was lowered into the septic tank and a video confirms the presence of the inlet tee. The inlet tee of the 1250 -gallon septic tank was visible from the manhole lid. Two pumps and two outlets were present in the second compartment of the 1250 -gallon septic tank. The floats were tested and the pumps appeared to be working properly. The alarm sounded when the high water float was raised. The control panel for the pumps is located in the house near access to the crawl space. The absorption areas showed no signs of saturation, and had no indication of failure. Distribution boxes noted on the drawings were not accessible from grade. Observation ports were not present. Recommendations: Clean filter annually, or as needed. This report should be submitted to the Pitkin County Environmental Health Department.
