If approval takes longer than 6 hours, a rate of $65 per hour will be charged. The maximum fee is $1000. The basic fee of $330 is due at the time of application. The remainder, if any, will be due in two stages: first, at the time of issuance of the ISDS permit; second, before final approval of the ISDS permit. The design included a 1,000 gallon septic tank and 36 infiltrator units. A 1,500 gallon septic tank has been installed, and the 36 infiltrator units have been changed to 54 Quick 4 standard chamber infiltrator units. The 54 units have been installed with 6 rows with 9 units each, which is sufficient with the original design's effective area. The inspection wells and manifolds have been installed per plan. Dear Mr. I(outsoubos: As requested, Hepworth - Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc., performed percolation testing at the subject site. We previously conducted a subsoil study and percolation test for the residence and tack barn and presented our findings in a report dated July 31, 2000, Job No. 100 550. A profile pit and three shallow backhoe pits were excavated on October 23, 2002 at the locations shown on Fia. 1. The test holes (nominal 1.2 inch diameter by 12 inch deep) were hand dug at the bottom of shallow backhoe pits and were soaked with water one day prior to testing. The subsoils exposed in the percolation holes are similar to those exposed in the Profile Pit and consist of about 1/2 foot of topsoil overlying sandy clay with shale fragments to the pit depth of 8 feet. No free water was observed in the pit and the �... soils were slightly moist to moist. Percolation testing was conducted on October 24, 2002, by a representative of Hepworth - Pawlak Geotechnical, Inc. The percolation test results are summarized on Table I. The percolation test results indicate an infilta•ation rate between 26 and 45 minutes per inch with an average of 34 minutes per inch. Based on the subsurface conditions encountered and the percolation test results, the tested area should be suitable for a conventional infiltration septic disposal system. These recommendations are based on additional percolation testing information indicating an average percolation rate of 34 minutes per inch verses the original estimated rate of 30 minutes per inch. I understand that this ISDS will serve a horse barn with 4 horse stalls and sink/shower/toilet/washer facilities for one person. Based on this information, the estimated average wastewater flow would be 263.4 gallons per day. The design flow, per regulation, is 1.75 times the average, or 460.3 gallons per day. The required standard absorption area (based on 34 minutes per inch) is 536.7 square feet, less 30% for using `Biodiffuser" or "Infiltrator" units in a bed configuration would give 375.8 square feet. At 15.5 square feet per unit, 25 units would be required. The minimum size of septic tank required is 576 gallons, however, a 1000 -gallon tank is the smallest usually available. Cleanouts should be installed at all bends leading from the barn into the septic tank. Separation between the absorption field and the existing well must be maintained at 100 -feet or more.
