Excavation Services installed the system. The installation included a three -compartment Valley Precast concrete septic tank with a .5 MicroFAST® treatment system in the second compartment and Orenco® Biotube pump vault and Orenco PF3005 pump in the thin) compartment (specification enclosed). Effluent is dosed to four zones of a subsurface drip system, each with two 10' x 40' sections per zone and five laterals per 10' section, for a total of 3200 square feet. Valves are accessible from grade. Laterals were buried between 12 and 24 -inches below grade. An annual service contract for the MicroFAST® is required per manufacturer specifications and Pitkin County OWTS Regulation. A copy of this contract must be provided to Pitkin County prior to final approval of the OWTS Permit. Resting of one zone annually is recommended. Three zones (75%) of the subsurface drip system may be utilized, allowing one zone (25%) to rest. The resting zone must be rotated annually. The service provider must be responsible for executing, tracking, and documenting the rotation as part of the service contract for this system. The control panel for the system is located within the crawlspace of the home for maintenance purposes. The system was installed in conformance with the proposed design and functions per the design guidelines, HCE approves of the installation. The property is located outside of Aspen, in an area where OWTSs are necessary. SITE CONDITIONS A historic homestead Victorian currently exists and will be remodeled, requiring an upgrade to the existing OWTS. A future main house will be developed on the property and will be served by a separate OWTS. Water to the property is provided by a public water system. A minimum 25 -foot setback will be maintained from the absorption area to the water line(s). A ditch runs along the east side of the property and will be greater than 50 -feet from the absorption area. SUBSURFACE The subsurface was investigated by digging one 6 -foot profile pit. The profile hole consisted of sandy clay. No groundwater or bedrock was encountered. The profile hole was dug in a centralized location on the property. Prior to installation, an additional profile hole will be excavated adjacent to and down gradient from the proposed absorption for the historic homestead Victorian. CTL Thompson obtained a sample of the soil from the 6 -foot profile hole bnd ran a gradation analysis, as described in the report dated January 10, 2013, Project GS05720.001-300. The sample consisted of 0% gravel, 5% sand, 95% silt and clay- sized materials. A long term acceptance rate (LTAR) of9,30' gal/sq. ft will be used to design the OWTS. 0,70 Oe -,\r C -,r jo. pS.Ewz'q' DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS KWD The OWTS design for the historic homestead Victorian is based on 2 -bedrooms. An average daily wastewater flow of 300 GPD and design flow of 450 GPD will be used. The installation must include a 1000 -gallon, three -compartment Valley Precast top seam septic tank with a .5 MicroFAST® treatment system in the second compartment and a P-30 Orenco® pump in the third compartment. The field consists of four zones, with two 10' x 40' sections per zone, with 5 laterals per 10' section, for a total of 3200 SF. Laterals should be buried at a depth of no less than 12" and no more than 24". Distribution valves must be used to distribute effluent to the sections in the absorption area. Page 2 An annual service contract for the MicroFAST® is required per manufacturer specifications and Pitkin County OWTS Regulation. The subsurface drip system consists of eight sections. 75% of the subsurface drip system (six sections) may be utilized, allowing 25% of the system (two sections) to rest. The two sections that are turned off must be rotated annually. The service provider must be responsible for executing, tracking, and documenting the rotation as part of the service contract for this system. Construction must be according to Pitkin County Onsite Wastewater Treatment System Regulations, the OWTS Construction Permit provided by Pitkin County Environmental Health Department, and this design. OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE The property owner shall be responsible for the operation and maintenance of each OWTS servicing the property. The property owner is responsible for maintaining service contracts for manufactured units, alternating absorption systems, and any other components needing maintenance. The surface of the drain field should be seeded upon completion. Vegetation is an important factor in drain field performance. Erosion control should be practiced prior to and during re -vegetation. Geo - fabrics or plastics should not be used over the drain field. No heavy equipment, machinery, or materials should be placed on backfilled drain field. Livestock should not graze on the drain field. Plumbing fixtures should be checked to ensure that no additional water is being discharged to OWTS. For example, a running toilet or leaky faucet can discharge hundreds of gallons of water a day and harm a drain field. The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years, or as needed gauged by measurement of solids in the tank. Garbage disposal use should be minimized, and non -biodegradable materials should not be placed into the OWTS. Grease should not be placed in household drains. Loading from a water softener should not be discharged into the OWTS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWTS. Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWTS. The OWTS is engineered for domestic waste only. ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES If design includes a pump, air release valves and weep holes should be installed to allow pump lines to drain to minimize risk of freezing. Excavation equipment must not drive in excavation of drain field due to the potential to compact soil. Extensions should be placed on all septic tank components to allow access to them from existing grade. Precast concrete tanks and distribution boxes should be used, unless plastic or fiberglass is required. Access to all tank compartments and distribution devices is optimal. INSTALLATION OBSERVATIONS Roaring Fork Civil Consultants, Inc. must view the OWTS during construction. The OWTS observation should be performed before backfill, after placement of OWTS components. Septic tanks, distribution devices, pumps, dosing siphons, and other plumbing, as applicable, must also be Cr Page 3 observed. Roaring Fork Civil Consultants, Inc. should be notified 48 hours in advance to observe the installation. LIMITS: The design is based on information submitted. If soil conditions encountered are different from conditions described in report, Roaring Fork Civil Consultants, Inc. should be notified. All OWTS construction must be according to the county regulations. Requirements not specified in this report must follow applicable county regulations. The installer should have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working. Please call with questions.
