The installation included one 2000 -gallon, single -compartment precast concrete septic tank, which was followed by the existing 1500 -gallon septic tank and 500 -gallon vault. The existing tanks were in good condition. PVC tees were placed in the concrete vault, although due to tank construction, and the `cast -in-place' concrete tees, PVC tees were not added to the existing 1500 -gallon tank. A cleanout was present between the house and 2000 -gallon septic tank, and following the concrete basin. No dosing device was present in the concrete vault, and no dosing device was installed as specified. A gravity OWS is applicable for the subject OWS. The existing drain field consisted of six deep gravel trenches (3' X 80' each) using serial distribution. Two new gravelless chamber trenches using `Quick-41TM chambers were installed. Each trench had 12 chambers for a total of 24 `Quick -4' chambers, and 237 SF of infiltrative area. Serial overflow lines were installed to distribute effluent. Observation pipes were installed on the existing trenches where applicable, and on the new trenches to observe drain field conditions. The OWS was installed according to specifications. This observation is not a guarantee of workmanship and/or parts and materials. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified if changes are made to the OWS. Installation Observations Pro. The property is located in Starwood Village, in an area where OWS are necessary. Water is provided by Starwood Village. SITE CONDITIONS A 5 -bedroom residence, utilizing its own OWS exists on the property. A 6 -bedroom residence is proposed as indicated on plans provided. Six `deep -gravel' trenches, each trench 3 feet wide, 80 feet long, and 2 feet deep exist. Serial distribution is used to distribute effluent. An upgrade to the existing OWS will be proposed to accommodate the proposed construction. The proposed drain field area is steep, and has a full cover of vegetation. SUBSURFACE The subsurface was investigated by Pitkin County in 1984. The percolation rate of 20 minutes per inch (MPI) will be used for the design. No bedrock or groundwater was reported. Colluvial soils exist at the proposed drain held area. DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS The OWS design is based on 6 -bedrooms and an average sewage load of 1560 GPD. The installation must include a 2000 -gallon, single-compartmept, approved plastic or concrete septic tank. An effluent filter must be placed on the existing 150b -gallon tank, and a dosing siphon must be installed in the, existing vault. Tai* alter natives may be considered. Two gravelless `Quick4' chamber trenches must be installed as indicated on plans. 24 `Quick 4' chambers, for a total of 237 square feet (SF) of infiltrative area, are required. Serial overflow lines must be installed to access new chamber Onsite Wastewater System Page 2 trenches. Construction must be according to the county ISDS regulations, the septic permit provided by Pitkin County Environmental Health Department, and this design. The existing OWS must be inspected during construction. Septic tanks, overflow lines, existing trenches, and other components may/will have to be excavated to ensure performance. OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE The surface of the drain field should be seeded upon completion. Vegetation is an important factor in drain field performance. Geo -fabrics or plastics should not be used over the drain field. Livestock should not graze on the drain field. Plumbing fixtures should be checked to ensure that no additional water is being discharged to OWS. For Example, a running toilet or leaky faucet carp discharge hundreds of gallons of water a day and harm a drain field. The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years and clean the effluent filter as needed. Garbage disposal use should be minimized, and non -biodegradable materials should not be placed into the OWS. Grease should not be placed in household drains. Loading from a water softener should not be discharged into the OWS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWS. Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWS. The OWS is engineered for domestic waste only. ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES If design includes a pump, air release valves and weep holes should be installed to allow pump lines to drain to minimize risk of freezing. Excavation equipment must not drive in excavation of drain field due to the potential to compact soil. Extensions should be placed on all septic tank components to allow access to them from existing grade. Precast concrete tanks and distribution boxes should be used, unless plastic or fiberglass is required. Access to all tank compartments and distribution devices is optimal. INSTALLATION OBSERVATIONS ALL SERVICE septic, LLC, and the county must view the OWS during construction. Inspection of existing OWS will take place during construction. The OWS observation should be performed before backfill, after placement of chambers and distribution pipes. Septic tanks, distribution devices, pumps, dosing siphons, and other plumbing, as applicable, must also be observed. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified 48 hours in advance to observe the installation. The design is based on information submitted. If soil conditions encountered are different from conditions described in report, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All OWS construction must be according to the county regulations. Requirements not specified in this report must follow county regulations. The installer should have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working. f Onsite Wastewater Systems Page 3 LIMITS: Results are based on field investigations and data provided by the client. See Pitkin County ISDS Regulation Article 4, Section 6.28.110. ❑ Environmental Health & Natural Resources has been notified and given an opportunity to visit the site at the time of soil testing. Soils report provided by an RPE: o Percolation tests (must be conducted by an RPE). o Soil profile. Building floor plans. Plans should be 11"x17" and legible. N ❑ Land use development approval (from Community Development): o Recorded 1041 Hazard Review Site Plan designating the approved building envelope. If the property is "1041 exempt," please have Community Development confirm this by e -mailing our Department at: aliciag@co.pitkin.co.us. o Copies of all land use development approvals (or other recorded document) pertinent to location of the septic system, or pertaining to the property's water supply (e.g., BOCC Resolution, HO Decision). ❑ Proof of adequate water supply. Generally, this will include: o For private wells (well must be drilled before septic permit can be issued): ■ Well driller's report. ■ Well permit (issued by the Colorado Division of Water Resources) and final augmentation plan (if required). 0 For community and non -community public water systems: • Letter from the Water District confirming they have sufficient water to supply the development and have agreed to do so. 0 For surface water diversions: ■ Proof of decreed water rights. t ❑ Proof of adequate water quality. 0 Bacteriology test results. (Aspen Consolidated Sanitation District and Snowmass Water & Sanitation District perform this test locally). Fee. The ISDS Permit fee is $600; the flat fee covers the first 6 hours of processing. An hourly rate of $100 will be charged beyond the first 6 hours, up to $1,000. The "tank only" fee is $150.
