My design of May 29th, for which the above permit was issued, was based on an incorrect location for the new well on Lot 4. When the crews laid out the system, the closest trench was too close to that well, by 12 -feet. The driveway has also moved from the information provided to me on May 7th, and the final location of the house was rotated slightly from those plans. I dan clition, they had installed a waterline"throughVe proposed trench field. My re -design, submitted herewith, deals with these issues. The true locations of the well, driveway and the water service line were provided to me electronically by the owner's surveyor, Aspen Survey Engineers. I have relocated the trench field to comply with the required separation between it and the well(s), water service lines, house etc. The area available places the trenches about 2 -feet inside the building envelope, and outside of the driving surface of the relocated driveway. These changes are reflected on Sheet 1 of the plans, with a revision date of today, the changes will be readily apparent, I believe. There has been no change in the number of infiltrators, but the layout of the trenches has been altered, to accommodate the odd -shaped available area between the well offset, the domestic water line, and the new driveway. The trenches now vary in length to fit the area, but they should all receive within about 4% of the same amount of flow, because the pump size, piping sizes, perforation sizes and spacing have all been altered to accommodate the new trench layout. The septic tanks were relocated, and placed closer to the house, based on a phone conversation with you in early June, this was to be covered in the final as -built plans for the project. The new location required a change in the piping to the trench field, and a change in the pump size, to accommodate a larger vertical head Brazzell-Nicholson ISDS revision of plans under Permit 903029 Wednesday, August 27, 2003 Page 1 of 2 and increased friction losses. The new location of the septic tanks and the pump chamber are shown, approximately, on the revised plans. This required some minor changes to Sheet 2 of the plans, which have been highlighted by bold text. Sheet 2 also bears a revision date of today. We will be suggesting to the owner and contractor that we provide the revised trench field data to their surveyor, to have the ends of the trenches staked out in the field, since the locations are now so precise. We will make a site visit before any infiltrators are set in the ground to confirm that the first trench is correctly set. If you have any questions, please call. The findings of our testing and observations are presented in this report. We previously conducted a subsoil study for the residence foundation and septic disposal designs at the subject site and presented our findings in a report dated May 15, 2001, Job No. 101240. The residence location is similar to that proposed during our previous study but the septic disposal area is now proposed to the east of the residence outside of the previous percolation test area. Building Excavation: At the time of our site visit on May 22, 2003, the foundation excavation had been cut in 3 Ievels from 11/2 to 5 feet below the adjacent ground surface. The soils exposed in. the bottom of the excavation consisted of relatively dense, clayey sandy gravel with cobbles and scattered boulders up to about 3/ feet in size. The base of the excavations was firm and no free water was encountered. The soil conditions exposed in the excavation are consistent with those previously encountered at the site and spread footings designed for an allowable soil bearing pressure of 3,000 psf should be adequate for support of the proposed residence. Any loose disturbed soils in footing areas should be removed and the bearing level extended down to the undisturbed natural soils. Other recommendations presented in our previous report which are applicable should also be observed. Percolation Testing: Three percolation holes about 3 feet deep and a profile pit 8 feet deep had been dug at the proposed septic disposal area as shown on Figure 4 at the time of our site visit on May 21, 2003. The subsoil profile consisted of about 2 feet of organic clay topsoil overlying clayey sandy gravel with cobbles and scattered boulders. The results of a gradation analysis performed on a sample of the gravel taken from the RE 'E1VE0 W 3 0 2003 Parker 303-841-7119 • Coiorado Springs 719-633-5562 0 Silverthome 970-468-1989 Roger Nicholson May 29, 2003 Page 2 profile pit is shown on Figure 2. No free water was encountered. The percolation test holes were prepared by hand digging a 10 to 12 inch deep hole by about 1 foot in diameter at the bottom of the pits and soaking the holes with water on May 21, 2003. The percolation testing was performed on May 22, 2003 and the results are presented in Table 1. We understand that Gamba and Associates will design the septic disposal system. Van Lieshout Sent by: William T. Van Lieshout 06/03/2003 07:33 AM To: Whom It May Concern cc: Subject: Lot 5 Community Water Rights This is to confirm that the owner of Lot #5 (currently Roger D. Nicholson and Bobbie A. Brazzell) has the right to 1/5 of the Hidden Meadows Property Owners Association (HMPOA) Community Well and Water System. This right is granted by the HMPOA Declaration of Covenants and Restrictions, dated August 8, 1979. This well is currently shared by only two of the five property owners and is of adequate supply to support additional hookups. This community water system is well maintained and the water is of very high quality. I am, as the owner of Lot #3, one of the two current owners connected to the system and have used this water for household purposes since 1996. During this time I have always found it to be of adequate supply and of the highest quality. Wx5a"--- QQL'A&Az William T. Meadows Subdivision, 5724 Snowmass Creek Road, Snowmass, CO 81654 PROPOSED DESIGN IS FOR A 5 BEDROOM, 5,724.3 SQUARE FOOT SINGLE FAMILY RESIDENCE. ACCORDING TO PITKIN COUNTY ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT, TO CALCULATE SEWAGE FLOW ASSUME TWO PERSONS PER BEDROOM USING AN AVERAGE DAILY SEWAGE FLOW OF 100 GALLONS PER PERSON PER DAY. (5 BEDROOMS) x (2 PERSONS PER BEDROOM) = 10 PEOPLE AVERAGE DAILY SEWAGE FLOW = (10 PEOPLE) x (100 GPD/PERSON) = 1,000 gpd MAXIMUM DAILY SEWAGE FLOW = (1.75) x AVERAGE DAILY FLOW (1.75) x (1,000 gpd) = 1,750 gpd MINIMUM SEPTIC TANK SIZE: (30 hr. DETENTION) + 257 FOR GARBAGE DISPOSAL. 30 hr. = 1.25 DAYS TANK SIZE = MAX. DAILY FLOW x 1.25 x 1.25 = 1,750 x 1.25 x 1.25 2,734 gal. USE ONE (1) 1;500 gal. AND ONE (1) 1,250 gal. CONCRETE SEPTIC TANK: TOTAL VOLUME = 2,750 gal. THE ABSORPTION AREA (A) FOR A NORMAL GRAVEL TYPE LEACH FIELD IS CALCULATED USING THE FORMULA: A = Q x t 5 Where: Q = MAXIMUM DAILY SEWAGE FLOW = 1,750 gallons per day t =-MAXIMUM PERCOLATION RATE = 40 min/in. [per HP Geotech report 101 240 of 05/20/03] - FIELD 5/20 03] - FIELD VERIFIED AT NEW ABSORPTION FIELD SITE. THEREFORE: A = (1,750) x V 40 = 2,213.59 sq. ft (SAY 2,214 sq.ft.) 5 According to the Colorado State Department of Health, and Pitkin County Regulations, for the design of a leach field using grovelless chamber units in a TRENCH configuration, a reduction of up to 507 in the size of the absorption area is allowed. Accordingly, a 507 reduction will be applied to the absorption field size. THEREFORE: The number of STANDARD INFILTRATOR units required is: ABSORPTION AREA(0.50)/AREA of 1 Infiltrator Unit 2,214(0.50) = 1,107 sq.ft./15.5-sq.ft./unit) = 71.42 units (rounded up to 72 units MINIMUM) The Infiltrator units are 3 -feet wide by 6.25 -feet long. The State and Pitkin County regulations require a minimum separation between units in a TRENCH configuration of 6 -feet of undisturbed soil between the trenches. The TRENCHES shall be constructed to conform as much as possible to the site contours, maintaining the required minimum separations to all features, in accordance with Pitkin County Environmental Health regulations. In order to keep the individual TRENCH lengths under 100 -feet, and to provide equal trench lengths, a configuration of 6 trenches in width (48 -feet) each trench being 12 units (75 -feet) long, is proposed, the total number of units therefore will be 72. MINIMUM HORIZONTAL DISTANCES IN FEET BETWEEN COMPONENTS OF SEWAGE DISPOSAL SYSTEM AND PHYSICAL FEATURES, per Table Il, Page 29, Pitkin County ISDS Regulations.
