RE: St. Benedict's Monastery Cabins - Septic System Design Notes - St. Benedicts Monatetery Cabins E and F - ADDITIONAL NOTHS111 Design change: This change will apply to both of the new systems being installed at the Monastery for cabins E and F. Due to field conditions limiting the area available for use, we are changing the design of the field from 4 trenches with 7 infiltrator unite in each trench, (28 total), to a bed system with 40 total units. The bed will be approximately 5 units wide and 8 units long, or 15, wide and 48, feet long. A minimum of 38 units is required for the system due to the fact that no reduction in sizing allowed for bed systems. 40 units are being used in this design to allow to even lengths in the bed system. See original design notes for more information regarding the design. This will be a field change and a asbuilt of the new design and layout will be provide after ;Final completion, acceptance, and approval. RE: St. Benedict's Monastery Cabins - Septic System Design Notes - St. Benedicts Monastery Cabins E and F The following are my design notes for the new Cabin's E and F Septic System design. The site is a sloped area on above the valley. This design applies to each cabin, thus each cabin will have a similar system installed to provide septic service. - 1 - Bedrooms (Design 2 min) - Approx. less than 2,000 Square Feet of living area, Remote cabin - 75 gallons per day per person - 30 minutes per inch perc rates - Perc Test by GDD/MWE - Ground water 150+\- feet from surface unknown not encountered. - Well for domestic water - 100' min away and above system Flow = Q = 2 bed rooms x 2 peo/br x 75 gal/day/per x 1.75 = 525 gallons per day. This requires the new system to be 100 -feet from the well. Tank sizing - 2 - Bed Rooms requires 656 gallons of septic tanks; Q X 1.25 Install one 750 gallon tank for the cabin. If a plastic tank is used, proper bedding must be used to protect the tank. Area of Septic field required = A A = (Q\5) x square roots of the perc rate (AVG) = 525/5 X SR(30) A = 575 square feet = 38 Infiltrators 30% Reduction with Infiltrators Ar= 403 Square Feet =126 Infiltrators System size is for 28 infiltrators to allow for even length rows in a trench system, with trenches 10 apart minimum. (4 rows OF 7 UNITS or 28 total UNITS) The layout of the system is to fit site conditions and meet all setbacks as shown on the attached drawing. Maximum size of bedding material over top of infiltrators is 211. Min cover over units is 18" and approximate dimensions are 30' X 421. The Tank will be installed in the general area below the home. Tees will be installed on both the inffluent and effluent lines of the tank, set on the inside of the tank. Set top of line from tee within 1" of the roof of the tank and extend line downward 1211 below center line of tee. Fill tank with water prior to backfill to check for leaks and leave water in tank for placing the system in service. Septic tanks will be a two -chambered tanks with access ports within 6" of final grade. Piping from the cabin to the tanks will be 4" SDR 35 PVC laid at a minimum of 1%. Insulate lines with less than 5 -foot of cover or in uninsulated crawl spaces. All piping to be bedded in a minimum of 2" under and 6" over of 3/4" screened rock. Piping from tanks to field shall be 4" SDR 35 PVC with a min slope of 1%. Provide a 4" distribution line to each trench. Install tees to distribute flow to each trench of infiltrators. Install vents at the end of each row or trench. Adjustments to fit site contours and conditions may be made per approval of the engineer. Elevations of the tank and trenches shall be finalized in the field by the engineer. Installation and operation shall be approved by the engineers prior to final acceptance. System must meet all PCEH and MWE standards. gdd\S 9-033.02 MCLAUGHLIN WATER ENGINEERS, ltd. 1 I I P AABC ASPEN, COLORADO 81611 970-925-1920 970-925-1974 fax mweaspen@rof net MEMORANDUM Date: August 31, 1999 BY: Dean Derosier; McLaughlin Water Engineers, Ltd., P.E.
