Dear David,
As requested, Nelscm EnvironMental and Wastewater Solutions, Ltd., performed a soils study and
percolation tests on the subject property to design a septic system for the proposed residence.
We conducted this study according to Section 5-1 through 5-5 of Pitkin CONS" tndivi&W
(Revised, May 1995) on June 14, 1995. We have based
our recommendations on the subsurface conditions encountered. We will furnish this letter to the
Aspen/Pitkin Envirwmantal Health DepartMent at our earliest opportunity so that you may obtain
a permit to Mutnict this sewage rystem.
The planned residence is a two bedroom, two and one-half bathroom, two-story game house
with a garden kvd finished basemcea. There are also two studio area specified in the plans.
The total living area of the house is calculated to be approximately 3150 square feet.
The property is to be served by a drilled well domestic water supply in place, but not yet
developed.
The site is a let in the Shield -0' -Mesa area in the Powell Subdivision. some oak Mushng site is located

A soil profile pit, within an area considered suitable for an on-site ter disposal pent
absorption field, was excavated- The excavation revealed no groundwater or
bedwithin sight toes of the surf ice of the ground.
The soils on this portion of the property consisted of 23 to 28 inches of very dark gray loam
topsoil overlaying a lighter tan clay loam grading to a clay loam with
h of four feet vel andTcobble subsoil was

relatively more rocky toward the bottom of the profile pit excavation.
The subaurfim soil conditions were evaluated with the standard percolation test procedures at the
approximate location shown on Figure 1 and Inset A. The subsoil, in which the percolation
testing was done, ,consisted of a clay loam. These soils were moist and well consolidated, and
showed Inde tendency to swell. The test holes were prepared by hand -digging it small We eight

Percolation testing was performed in the proposed absorption area location a minimum of 100
feet down gradient fmm the wellhead. The percolation holes were pre-soaked by adding water to
a depth of fourteen to eighteen inches above the gravel layer at regular intervals throughout the
day, An initial fining of approximately six gallons was done the morning the test was conducted.

refiled to a depth of fourtoen inches above the bottom of each test hole.
The results of the ;percolation testing are presented in Table 1. These results indicate the clay loam
soils h m an average percolation rate of 19 minutes per inch and are acceptable for a
conventional inftm6on design for the on-site sewage system

for use for sewage disposal design purposes. The conclusions and recommendations submitted in
