U To accomplish the latter, we retained the services of a soils investigation LU firm, The Lincoln-Devore Testing Laboratory. LU � u N z The wastewater disposal system was initially planned for an area northerly LU U) of the structure. In a conversation with you and the owner, it was agreed that this wastewater disposal system could be placed on higher ground eliminat- o ing the noise, high operating costs and more frequent maintenance of a 0mechanical treatment system. By selecting the second site it was necessary w w to eliminate the wash room in the stable area. Our office then performed Z _j percolation tests and designed an anerobic treatment system which will bd z capable of treating the wastewater generated on the aforementioned premises. W Maintenance requirements for this system include one essential item -- the septic tank should be pumped once each year, This assures continued long co life of the absorption area and promotes efficient operation of the system. M The above referenced structure was analyzed in accordance with the recom- 0 mendations of the Lincoln-Devore Testing Laboratory, the Architect's plans, o and the Standards of the American Concrete Institute (ACI). Recommenda - tions contained herein pertain only to the foundation of the structure and it is not the intent nor purpose of this report to analyze any of the Z structural members which this foundation supports, a LU � W The soils reports determined that the soil has a generally poor bearing U a capacity where exterior loads may be a maximum 1,200 psf and interior loads may be only 1,000 psf. In addition to a relatively low bearing capacity, z o o it was necessary to design a retaining structure for the northerly walls. C_- = The attached plans detail the necessary configuration of the foundation Z o based upon the aforementioned criteria and standards, G W O U In order to assure that concrete and reinforcing steel conform to the de- co sign, we would ask that the concrete conform to the requirements of ACI o 00 Standard 318-71 and that the concrete have a twenty-eight (28) day compres- sive strength of 3,000 psi, Reinforcing steel should be Grade 40 and 0 0 J W 4. -2- conform to the requirement of ACI 318-71. It is of critical importance that reinforcing steel be placed as shown in the attached drawings and so we therefore recommend that personnel from Eldorado Engineering Com- pany inspect the reinforcing steel prior to concreting so that compliance with the construction drawings is assured. Additionally, it is recommended that our personnel take concrete test cylinders during the placement of concrete so that the strength of the concrete is verified. Plans also call for construction of a drainage system which will protect the foundation. Final grading and landscaping should be such that all free surface water will drain rapidly away from the house, The french drain and drain tile should be channeled away from the house to the westerly side. I agreed to �Qt Speerier run the test, since he is an R.P. E. I don't see any problem with their putting the disposal field in the slide material that Bob was fearful of.
