May 23, 1978 Bob Nelson County Sanitarian Pitkin County Courthouse 506 East Main Aspen, Colorado 81611 Re: Jack Wheeler Homesite Dear Bob: At your request I have conducted a percolation test adjacent to the home site of Jack Wheeler in the Snowmass Creek Valley. The three holes were along an easterly line just east of the septic tank at the southeast corner of the foundation. The holes trended downhill with a separation of about five feet between the first and second holes and about ten feet between the second and third holes. The holes were properly constructed with gravel at the base of each, and were presoaked overnite before the actual testing. The holes were some- what shallow averaging two feet in depth rather than the optimum three feet. The soils in the test holes consisted of well consolidated clayey, sandy gravel. The water drop was measured periodically for thirty minutes except in the uppermost hole which went dry after twenty minutes. The results were as follows: uppermost hole --one inch in seven minutes middle hole --one inch in twenty minutes lowermost hole --one inch in thirty minutes Because of possible encroachment of the leach field on the well to the south of the septic system, and to preserve as many trees as possible, it appears advantageous to design a drainage pit rather than field if at all possible. I realize that a rather large hole will be required for a home of this size. Please contact me if you need any further information. cc: Jack Wheeler Sincerely, .01" Nicholas Lampiris Consulting Geologist PITKIN COUNTY ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH Field Test Data Sheet on Percolation Test PROPERTY OWNER — PHONE MAILING ADDRESS LEGAL DESCRIPTION OF PROPERTY LOCATION OF TEST HOLES Three (3) test holes required per system Test Hole Depths (24" minimum) Diameter of Test Holes Water remaining after 8 hour soak TEST HOLE No.1 Drop Time 1 Percolation Rate Each Hole Average Rate 5 Comments on soil or site• Signature 4 0,- 12 TEST HOLE No. 2 Drop Time TEST HOLE No. 3 DroD Time t«aG-.cFl 9kwek' ., , Date*lr
