A permit has been issued for this property whickj complies with all of the requirements of the Aspen/Pitkin County Environmental Health Department. The Pitkin County Individual Sewage Disposal System Regulation imposes a number of constraints that limit the location of a sewage disposal system on any lot, and the system that we have designed and permitted is what we believe will provide the best sewage treatment for this lot. Please be assured that the system that the Adams install will be in accordance with the Pitkin County Individual Sewage Disposal System Regulation and will be inspected by either myself or another staff person to insure that they have installed what has been permitted. I hope that I have helped to clear up any questions that you may have had in regard to this property.. !f you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at 920-5069. We conducted this study according to Article 5 of the Pitkin County Individual Sewage Disposal System Regulation on August 1, 1996. We have based our recommendations on the subsurface conditions encountered at that time. We will furnish this letter and a copy of the enclosed data sheets to the Aspen/Pitkin Environmental Health Department as soon as possible to obtain a permit to construct this individual sewage system. Proposed Construction and Building Site: The two-story residence is to be a three-bedroom, two bathroom house with about 1980 square feet of living area The house location is on a subdivision lot of approximately .221 acres. Water to the residence is supplied from the Redstone Water and Sanitation treatment plant. The main water lines to this lot are currently being replaced with eight inch ductile iron pipe and will be located across the subdivision roads to the northwest and southwest of the subject property. The house site is located in a meadow area with a gently rolling topography, sloping a 10% grade toward the Southeast. Typical of lots in this area of the subdivision adjacent to the common park area, a vegetation pattern of grasses predominates. Subsurface Conditions: A soil profile, within the proposed absorption area and twenty feet from the proposed building location, was excavated to a depth of sixteen and one half feet. The excavation revealed that there was no groundwater apparent. Bedrock was not observed to this depth from the surface of the ground. The subsoils were moist and compacted slightly under the pressure of the excavating equipment. P.O. Box 6961 Snowmass Village, CO 81615 Office (970) 923.3289 Home & Fax (970) 923.2766 Adams Septic System Soil Investigation and Percolation Test Lot X, Crystal River Park Subdivision August 2, 1996 Page 2 The soils consisted of 14 to 18 inches of dark organic loam topsoil. The subsoil was a red, loamy sand of uniform consistency to the bottom of the profile pit. Unusually, there were no rocks or flagstone fragments in the subsoils. The subsurface soil conditions were evaluated with the standard percolation test procedures at the approximate locations shown on Figure 1. The proposed drywell percolation test holes were excavated to varying depths and placed at the bottom of backhoe pits using hand tools. Before presoaking was begun, the sidewalls were scraped and three inches of gravel were placed in the test hole to prevent the scouring of loose soils from the sidewalls when the water was added. Percolation Testing: Percolation testing was performed in the proposed drywell absorption pits in an area just southwest of the proposed residence. This testing was performed in holes dug to varying depths at the bottom of three backhoe excavations. The bottom of the deepest test hole was located at a total depth of 136 inches below the ground surface, and the others at depths between 60 inches and 94 inches. An initial filling of the percolation test holes was done by adding approximately 12 gallons of water to the test holes the afternoon before the percolation test was to be conducted. The percolation holes were then further pre-soaked by adding water to refill the test holes to a depth of fourteen inches above the bottom every hour during an eight hour period before beginning the percolation test measurements. The results of the percolation testing are presented in Table I. These results indicate the loamy sand soils have an average percolation rate of 10 minutes per inch, a satisfactory percolation rate under Pitkin County criteria. These results and the minimum setback distances required for horizontal separations from the water line, house foundation, and property lines in the Pitkin County Individual Sewage Disposal System Regulation, seem to dictate a septic system absorption area with a drywell configuration. Limitations: This report has been prepared according to generally accepted practices in this area for use for sewage disposal design purposes. The conclusions and recommendations submitted in this report are based upon data obtained from our site visits at the location indicated. There is some possibility that the nature and extent of variations in the subsurface soils across the site may not have been evident at the time of this investigation, and may need additional evaluation, if further excavation reveals conditions different from those described. This office should be advised of any unusual situations as soon as possible so that we may reevaluate our recommendations. 2 Adams Septic System Soil Investigation and Percolation Test Lot X, Crystal River Park Subdivision August 2, 1996 Page 3 We hope that this investigation is sufficient for your needs.
