Dear Dick: I have reviewed the information on the percolation test that was performed by Jerome Gamba & Associates in September of 1995. The data that has been provided is acceptable and will be adequate for this Department to design a sewage disposal system for your property. Another profile hole may be required to be dug at the time of construction to eliminate the presence of groundwater or bedrock. The 8 -foot hole can be dug by a backhoe when you break ground -for your home this summer. I have included an updated sewage disposal' system application. Our phone conversation on October 10 regarding the perc test for my upcoming septic permit. a� Dear Betsy, J ' Enclosed are (1) the perc test results from Gerome Gamba & Associates, including diagram, and (2) my sketch of the lot showing where I envision the leach field will be. I plan to request an ISDS permit early next year and have the septic system installed in the summer. As I explained to you on the phone, I am concerned about the following statement in the permit guidelines: "This test hole must be inspected by Aspen/Pitken Environmental Health Department personnel. Soil logs developed by qualified soil engineers will be accepted in lieu of this inspection if the Department has given approval.' I was not aware of this, and there was an urgency to get the perc test done since our contract to buy the lot was predicated on its success. The holes have since been filled in. In order to avoid potential conflict when I apply for the permit, would you please provide a letter to me saying that I had approval to have the perc test done without Health Department inspection of the open hole. I would appreciate it greatly. In the guidelines reference is made to tank and field configuration information in les 2 through 4, vvjiich were not included in the package I rece ve ould you please send me these tables. Hopkins 1900 Oak Ave. Boulder, CO 80304 Re: Percolation Test; Crystal River Park Subdivision, Phase II Dear Mr. Hopkins: Jerome Gamba & Associates (JGA) has conducted the percolation tests as requested for the site located in the southeast corner of LOT 4 of the Crystal River Park Subdivision, Phase 11. The tests were conducted in three separate holes in a line generally parallel to the sloping terrain. The bottom elevation of Pits #1 and #3 were each 31 inches below the existing ground surface. The bottom elevation of Pit #2 was 26 inches below the existing ground surface. All three pits were 12 inches in diameter. Along with the three test pits, two observation profile holes were dug along the same line as the test pits. Observation hole #1 was located between Pits #1 and #2. The hole was 6.5 feet deep by 5 feet long and 3 feet wide. Observation hole #2 was located between pits #2 and #3, and its dimensions were 8 feet deep by 5 feet long by 3 feet wide. Both profile holes showed up to 10 inches of topsoil covering up to 3 feet of a sandy silt material. Below the silt layer, was a material consisting of the same sandy silt interspersed with cobbles, gravels and pebbles, with the larger cobbles up to 6 inches in diameter. Based on the percolation tests performed by Jerome Gamba & Associates, we would recommend using a percolation rate of 50 minutes per inch. This is within the satisfactory range set by the Pitkin County Health Department of less than 60 minutes per inch. 'GA would also recommend the bottom of the leaching surface be located below the top 4 feet of fine materials. This would allow the percolation to occur in the coarser material which will maintain a more consistent percolation rate.
