NARRATIVE:
I went to final the Sadler system, and found several problems.
The Industrial Denver septic tank seemed to be good. The inlet is baffled, and
the wall closest to the house slopes away, so the incoming sewage is forced
down, and slides to the bottom of the tank. The baffle wall is pre -cast into
the tank. The only thing. I question, is that by tapering the wall, the sludge
storage capacity is cut, probably by 1/4.
The system was not approved. The far end of the bed is actually
sitting on grade, rather than being 2 feet into the virgin soil. Ruggles will
try to rememdy this with a plastic liner around the low end of the bed. A
ditch around the seepage bed, to divert all run-off from it, and give the soil
an opportunity to percolate, had not been done. This was a requirement,
and must be done before approval is given.

NARRATIVE:
I met Lorraine Sadler, Charlie Drew, and Frank, the contractor.
First we put 960 dye down the toilet. I was under the understanding
that the system consisted only of a holding tank that had never been pumped,
which would mean an outfall line either to the river or under the surface
of the ground, which would constitute a malfunctioning system. However,
we could not substantiate that this was the case.
We then went up on the hill to look at her proposed building
site. Charlie had an instrument with which we could determine % of slope,
and there was an area on the borderline of 30%, somewhat north of where the
original soil profile hole had been dug, and may not be in an area of
high groundwater. The area is about 90' long and 40-60' wide, and
marginally on the 30% slope line. I indicatdd that I would go along with
the excavation of another soil profile hole. An application still must
be taken out before a percolation test is run.

I went to Lorraine Sadler's property to look at the system Jim
Ruggles installed. I don't see any way that they can get a diversion ditch
above that leach field, because it's too close. He didn't put it in the
area that I had specified, and I think Bob was right in turning it down
because of the end of the field running into the fill over the old jeep
road. They haven't done anything to change it.

NARRATIVE:

County 57
I travelled to Redstone Ranch Acres with Ron Troxel. They have
dug a soil profile hole about six or seven feet deep, and found that
water was coming in at 4-5 feet because at the time there was water
standing 5 feet down from the upper side. The soil looks like a mixture
of sand and clay . I would guess the perc rate would be rather flow.
There is only one area in which to pOt the system, according to the
slope. The rest of the ground is very steep. I told Ron that an engineered
system was called for.

I met Chuck Lindamoo& in Carbondale, and then travelled to the
BRB for a site location inspection. Even though the p4& e of ground
is less than an acre (specifically .82 acres), it looks reasonable
to allow installation of a well and individual sewage disposal system
on the property, if the perc tests come out properly.
