Mountain Terrascape installed the system. The installation included a 2000 -gallon, two-compartment septic tank (recirculation tank) followed by a 1000 -gallon septic tank (dosing tank). Both tanks were made by Valley Precast. Both the recirculation pump and discharge pump were tested and were working properly. Two Advantex® AX -20 panels are installed on top of the recirculation tank. The automatic distributing valve (ADV) specified on the original design was not installed and instead the pump line connects to a level manifold and distributes to two gravelless chamber beds. Each bed consists of 64 `Quick 4' Infiltrator® chambers for a total of 128 chambers. Each bed is pressurized with 1.25" pipe suspended under each row of chambers. Valley Precast personnel did start-up on the pumps and Advantex® system. It was noted that water was coming into the tank where the inlet pipe comes through the boot. This portion of the system was tested by Mountain Terrascape personnel and they reported no leakage. Valley Precast holds a 3 -year maintenance contract with the owner for this system. The OWTS was generally installed according to specifications. This observation is not a guarantee of workmanship and/or parts and materials. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified if changes are made to the OWTS in the future. Any additional OWTS construction must be according to the county regulations. LIMITS: Observations are limited to components that are visible at the time of the inspection. The installer must have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working. The quality of the installation is dependent of the expertise of the installer, soil type, and weather conditions. X01 Please call with questions. I found there was a discrepancy with the ownership name. You applied as Roaring Fork Holdings, LLC and it is noted as the same ownership in the Assessor's website. However, it is recorded on the amended plat as Roaring Fork Valley Holdings, LLC. I'm not sure which is correct (I believe the 2nd- per the Secretary of State website), but if you would like me to change the name on the permit, I'm happy to do that. You may also want to notify the Assessor's office of the discrepancy. I would also like to note that a profile hole must be dug in the area of the absorption area BEFORE installing the field. I don't anticipate any problems, but I think it is important to verify. This system was also sized for 6 bedrooms in the main house. Nancy, formerly from this office, had received floor plans that were not very detailed as part of the application packet (rooms not even labeled). From what I can gather, this house will have 5 bedrooms, but you may want to verify. A more detailed set of plans would also be appreciated. Thanks, and please let me know if you have any questions. The property is located outside of Aspen Colorado, in an area where OWTS are necessary. SITE CONDITIONS A single-family residence presently exists, although will be demolished. A 6 -bedroom singte,"f milt' residence having greater than 6000SF is proposed as indicated on the plans. There is an existing drain field that will be abandoned. The proposed drain field area slopes steeply to the northwest, and vegetation consists of a moderate cover of grasses and sagebrush. Water isrovided by the onsite well located 100+ feet from proposed drain field. t%W*",h .0a tA* I too SUBSURFACE "1914 The subsurface was investigated by digging one profile pit and three percolation holes, as indicated. The materials encountered in the profile pit consisted of 1 -foot of a clayey root zone, underlain by sandy clay to*taunderlain by sandy clay with fragments of highly fractured bedrock. Groundwater was not encountered. Three percolation holes were dug, in the area of the proposed drain field, as indicated. Percolation rates ranged from 16 to 20 minutes per inch (MPI). A 19, MPI rate will be used to design the OWTS. DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS The OWTS design is based on 6 -bedrooms and an average sewage load of 1200 GPD. The installation must include *m -compartment, precast concrete septic tank (recirculation tank) with an AX -20 Advantex Unit, followed by a 1000 -gallon, single compartment dosing tank. Two gravelless chamber beds must be installed as indicated, each bed must have 64 `Quick -4' chambers for a total of 128 chambersl equaling 1264 SF. } An automatic distributing valve mast be used to distribute effluent. 1404 Subsurface Investigation and Revised OWTS Design Project No. 1468 4/20/09 Page 2 Construction must be according to the Pitkin County Environmental Health Department OWTS regulations, the septic permit provided by Pitkin County Environmental Health Department, and this design. This design for the subject property, noted above, is valid only in conjunction with the approved County Health Department permit. OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE The surface of the drain field should be seeded upon completion. Vegetation is an important factor in drain field performance. Erosion control should be practiced prior to and during re -vegetation. Geo - fabrics or plastics should not be used over the drain field. No heavy equipment, machinery, or materials should be placed on backfilled drain field. Livestock should not graze on the drain field. Plumbing fixtures should be checked to ensure that no additional water is being discharged to OWTS. For Example, a running toilet or leaky faucet can discharge hundreds of gallons of water a day and harm a drain field. The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years and clean the effluent filter as needed. Garbage disposal use should be minimized, and non -biodegradable materials should not be placed into the OWTS. Grease should not be placed in household drains. Loading from a water softener should not be discharged into the OWTS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWTS. Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWS. The OWTS is engineered for domestic waste only. ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES If design includes a pump, air release valves and weep holes should be installed to allow pump lines to drain to minimize risk of freezing. Excavation equipment must not drive in excavation of drain field due to the potential to compact soil. Extensions should be placed on all septic tank components to allow access to them from existing grade. Access to all tank compartments and distribution devices is required. ADVANTEX OPERATION AND INSTALLATION A qualified installer should install The AdvantexTM Unit. A two-year operation and maintenance contract should be provided by the installer. Additional construction notes are provided on construction figures attached. L The control panel should be mounted in `line -of -site' to tank and AdvantexTM unit. 2. A dedicated 15A service for control breaker (in OSI panel) is required. 3. A dedicated 20A service for P30 and P50 pumps is required (1/2 hp or less). 4. If wires from breaker to panel and/or pumps exceed 75 feet we should be contacted to consider 230 volt recommendations. 5. Conduit should be used for electrical lines. 6. Electrician must provide phone line, if applicable, and terminate in control panel. INSTALLATION OBSERVATIONS ALL SERVICE septic, LLC, and the county must view the OWS during construction. The OWS observation should be performed before backfill, after placement of chambers and distribution pipes. Septic tanks, distribution devices, pumps, dosing siphons, and other plumbing, as applicable, must also be observed. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified 48 hours in advance to observe the installation. r••, yam, Subsurface Investigation and Revised OWTS Design Project No. 1468 4/20/09 Page 3 LIMITS: The design is based on information submitted. If soil conditions encountered are different from conditions described in report, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All OWS construction must be according to the county regulations. Requirements not specified in this report must follow county regulations. The basis of our geologic investigation is the setback between onsite wastewater system (OWS) drain field and the onsite well per Pitkin County Environmental Health Department (PCEHD) regulations. The geologic investigation addresses the separation distances between the OWS drain field and an existing well on a neighboring property. The onsite wastewater design (OWS) has been presented under separate cover, prepared by All Service Septic, LLC. SITE CONDITIONS pi'vo it, 1 tk#L*J The site is located in a mountainous area where OWS are required. There is no well on the subject site although a well exists on a neighboring property. A moderate cover of sagebrush, shrubs, and native grasses exists at the site. The slope of the proposed drain field location and the majority of the building site is 20% to the north. GEOLOGIC SETTING The geologic map for the area is the GEOLOGIC MAP OF THE ASPEN QUAD, COLORADO, MAP GQ -933. A portion of the map is presented on Figure 1. Subsurface conditions were exposed in a test pit as indicated on Figure 1, and in the large excavation in the area of the existing house after it was demolished. The soils onsite consist of 7 to 9 feet of sand silt and clay, underlain by Mancos ShaJs. The local geologic maps confirms the entire site is underlain by Mancos Shale primary dipping at 15 degrees to the east northeast. (dip taken from map GQ -932, Highland Peak Quad) GEOLOGIC RESULT The result of the dip and strike analysis indicates that treated effluent passing through the upper soils will come in contact with the Mancos Shale and migrate northeast. The Mancos Shale is impermeable and is a natural barrier to prevent contamination to the neighboring well to the west. ® Geologic Investigation 101 Oak Ridge Drive Project No. 1468 Page 2 CONCLUSIONS Based on geological conditions and evaluation of risk of contamination of surface water and ground water, it is not necessary to add 8 feet additional distance for each 100 gallons of wastewater flow over 1000 gallons per day as specified in the table to prevent contamination. A 100 -foot separation between the absorption area and the well is appropriate to prevent contamination. All other setback distances must be followed. LIMITATIONS If conditions considerably different from those described in this report are encountered, we should be notified to observe the conditions. If proposed construction is changed, we should be notified to evaluate the effect of the changes on the wastewater system. If there are questions, please call. Sincerely, ALL SERVIC tic, Timothy R. The Buttermilk Metro District provides potable water service to properties within the District through a Colorado State approved public water system. The system identification number is PWSID # CO 0149160 and a ground water source has been adjudicated Under Case Nos. OOCW305 and O1 CW28 in Water Court Division 5, and the water supply meets or exceeds all federal and state water quality standards and a fully operational pumping, treatment and distribution system is in place to deliver water to all properties eligible for service from the District. Therefore, the property is eligible for water service from the District but prior to actual water deliveries, the owner must; 1) complete a water service application, quantifying the service level requested; 2) tender payment of all appropriate fees and charges, including tap fees (if required), facility fees, water right fees, and specific construction inspection fees; 3) install a Metro District approved water service line and electronic water meter (a 1" meter is provided by the District); and 4) make all driveway connections to District roads in compliance with District standards and specifications. The property is also eligible to access these roads, and use of the roads during construction by heavy vehicles is permitted following the payment of a Heavy Vehicle Use Fee. This fee is calculated by, and paid to, the Metro District for the accelerated wear caused by heavy trucks and equipment commonly used to build homes. All proposed cuts to any district road and access points must be pre -approved by the District. Should you have any questions, please give me a call at the above number. Sincerely, By .
