Pitkin County regulations and state law require that three parameters be met before a permit to install a conventional septic tank -absorption system may be issued. These are a ground slope less than 30 percent, absence of the evidence of ground water and bedrock, and a percolation rate between 5 minutes per inch and 60 minutes per inch. If any one of these parameters cannot be met, the sewage disposal system must be designed by a Registered Professional Engineer. Based on the wide variability in percolation rates exhibited on ad#acent lots in the vicinity, there is a possibility of a slow percolation rate. Soil tests would of course have to be completed to establish a percolation rate and soil characteristics. If this office can be of further assistance please contact us at 925-4366.
