Baker Construction ATTN: Bill Baker 210 AABC, Suite MM Aspen, Colorado 81611 Subject: OWS Analysis for Finishing Upper Level Crown Kunkler Residence 2298 Owl Creek Road Pitkin County, Colorado Job No. 9085W Mr. Baker, As requested, CHURCH Onsite Wastewater Consultants, LLC (COWC) performed a site visit to observe the onsite wastewater system (OWS) at the subject site. Church & Associates Inc. prepared OWS design documents under Job No. 9085W dated August 28, 2002 which was revised July 22, 2003 and December 3, 2004. The system was installed in 2005. The OWS design was for on a 5 -bedroom residence of greater than 6000 SF. The design was based on an average design flow of 1560 -gallons per day (GPD) and 2730 -GPD for peak loading, using a 1.75 peaking factor. The design resulted in the installation of 1766.4 SF of infiltrative area. The upper level of the residence is being finished with three rooms, a sitting room, yoga room, and exercise room. Due to the proximity of the sitting room to a 3/4 bathroom, the sitting room will be considered a bedroom. The OWS design for the 6 -bedroom residence, under the current OWTS regulations would be based on an average design flow of 1200 -GPD and 2250 -GPD peak loading using a 1.5 peaking factor. The required infiltrative area is 1895 SF. The new area is a difference of 119 SF greater from what is installed and what would be required with the additional bedroom under the current OWTS regulation. A site visit was performed on December 16, 2008. At the time of the site visit, the elapsed time meter (ETM) for the pump discharging effluent to the mounded drainfield was read and recorded. The ETM reading was 133.67 hours. The residence has been using an average of 416 GPD for the last three years. An ETM reading of 136.39 hours was taken again on January 6, 2009. The residence has been using 389 GPD for the 3 week period over the holidays. As actual flows over the last 3 years represent 25% of the average design flow, COWC believes the existing system is adequate to serve the residence including the finishing of the upper level. COWC believes that there will not be an increase in wastewater generation resulting from the finishing of the upper level of the residence. If there was an increase in the wastewater generation, the wastewater flow would still be less than the original design flow and no additional infiltrative 9590 West 14th Avenue Ste. 100, Lakewood, CO 80215 Voice 720-898-3434 FAX: 720-898-3455 OWS Analysis, 9085W January 12, 2009, Page 2 area would be necessary. This variance from the regulations should not be assumed to be a precedent for sizing OWTS in Pitkin County in the future. If there are questions, please call.
