This septic permit is approved per compliance with the engineer design and specifications dated 05-23-06 based on
new soil data. Any changes must be approved by this department and the design engineer prior to them being
made. Minimum horizontal distances between components of the system and physical features shall conform to the
Pitkin County ISDS regulations. Documentation must be provided that the old system has been properly
abandoned.
The design is for one 1000 gallon two compartment concrete tank with an effluent filter at the 2- bedroom guest
cabin with gravity flow to a 1500 gallon two compartment concrete tank which will serve the 3—bedroom
Barn/Caretaker unit. This tank has a Biotube pump vault and doses the effluent to a 5 trenches, each trench with 15
QUICK4 gravelless chambers for a total of 80 chambers. The trenches are designed to be installed as serial
distribution. There is to be 6 inches of sand under the chambers and an observation pipe at the end of all trenches.
This department does not endorse any brand of products. This permit must be kept on-site during installation.
The engineer must do a final inspection of the installation and submit an as -built letter to this department. This
department must also be called for an inspection with a minimum of 48 hours advanced notice.
*Revegetation over the area of the field is very important for the functioning of the system. Pitkin County has guidelines that must be
followed to assure the plants that are introduced are appropriate for the conditions of the area. The use of native plants is strongly
encouraged.

The fee for a ISDS application is $600 for a permit that takes 6 hours or less for the department to approve. If approval takes
longer than 6 hours, a rate of $100 per hour will be charged. The maximum fee is $1000. The basic fee of $600 is due at the
time of application. The remainder, if any, will be due in two stages: first, at the time of issuance of the ISDS permit; second,
before final approval of the ISDS permit.
Application for an individual sewage disposal system is hereby submitted. I hereby certify that the above information is true and
accurate and that I have provided true and accurate information on locations of all existing and proposed wells, contour
intervals, buildings, property lines, ditches, slopes, waterlines, springs, suction or irrigation lines, drinking water cisterns, drain
tiles, irrigation ditches, lakes, water courses, streams, floodplains, dry gulches, and existing septic systems. I hereby certify that
any such features not shown on attached site map are not present. Issuance of the permit does not imply the approval of any
other permit required for construction pursuant to Pitkin County codes. No construction may be undertaken until all approvals
and permits have been obtained.
The Pitkin County Environmental Health Department, Pitkin County and employees of these agencies will be held harmless
should the individual sewage disposal system fail or malfunction. The permit to construct is issued on information submitted by
the applicant or his/her representatives. The owner assumes full responsibility in case of failure of the system.

ALL SERVICE septic, LLC performed an installation observation on September 2e, 2006, for the
subject property.
The installation included an existing 1000 -gallon, two-compartment precast concrete septic tank with
the addition of an effluent filter on the outlet for the existing cabin, and a 1500 -gallon, two-
compartment, CopelandTM precast concrete septic tank with a BiotubeTM pump vault for the red barn.
The 1500 -gallon septic tank will collect effluent from both structures in order to dose the drain field.
The drain field consists of five gravelless trenches using `Quick -4' chambers, for a total of 80
chambers, for a total of 790 SF. Serial distribution was used to distribute effluent.
The pump line is 2" `pure-core'TM, and is buried at a depth of 6 feet to prevent freezing. The pump
was wired and working at the time of our observation. A control panel was mounted on the west side
of the cabin.

LIMITS:
The design was based on information submitted. If conditions are different from conditions described
in this letter, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All additional OWS construction must
be according to the county regulations. The installer should have documented and demonstrated
knowledge of the requirements and regulations of the county in which they are working.

8,9,10,11, and 12 are of the septic field. For the most part it is shallow, but with the runs there is a

As requested by Monty with Silich, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC has prepared a revised onsite
wastewater system (OWS) design for the subject residence. The revision is based on a change in
location of proposed drain field. We performed a subsurface investigation and percolation test on
May 10, 2006, which will be used for the OWS design.
SITE CONDITIONS
The property is located in Snowmass Colorado in an area where OWS and wells and/or springs are
necessary. There is a 3 -bedroom barn and a 2 -bedroom guesthouse located on the property. An OWS
currently serves the existing structures and will be abandoned upon new OWS construction. The
OWS will be sized on 5 total bedrooms. A spring serves the subject property, which is located 500+
north of the proposed drain field.
SUBSURFACE
The subsurface was investigated by digging one profile hole and three percolation holes as indicated
on plans. The profile hole consisted of about 1.0 foot of topsoil, underlain to 3.5 feet by sandy clay
with angular rock, underlain by slightly sandy clay to 5 feet, underlain by sandy clay with angular
rocks to the maximum depth explored of 8 feet. Ground water was not encountered. No bedrock was
encountered. Percolation rates ranged from 27 to 40 minutes per inch (MPI). The design will be
based upon a percolation rate of 32 MPI.
DESIGN SPECIFICATIONS
The OWS design is based on 5 total bedrooms and an average sewage load of 750 GPD. The
installation must include a 1000 -gallon, two-compartment, precast concrete septic tank for the
guesthouse, and a 1500 -gallon, two-compartment, precast concrete septic tank, with a BiotubeTm
pump vault for the barn. Tank and pump basin alternatives may be considered. Five rows of 16
`Quick-4TM' chambers, for a total of 790 square feet (SF), must be installed as indicated. Six inches

of sand must be placed in each trench, prior to placement of chambers. The sand should be
settled using vibratory machine, or by hydro -compaction. Care should be taken as to not over -
saturate sand, and to prevent ponding of water in trenches. The chambers should be placed in the
upper three feet of soil. The chambers may be configured to fit topography to accommodate proposed
3 -foot depth. Serial distribution should be used to distribute effluent. The overflow pipes must enter
and exit into the `top' of each `Quick -4' end plate. The pump dose should be set at 150 gallons per
dose.
Construction must be according to the county ISDS regulations, the septic permit provided by Pitkin
County Environmental Health Department, and this design.
OPERATION INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE
The surface of the drain field should be seeded upon completion. Vegetation is an important factor in
drain field performance. Geo -fabrics or plastics should not be used over the drain field. Livestock
should not graze on the drain field. Plumbing fixtures should be checked to ensure that no additional
water is being discharged to OWS. For Example, a running toilet or leaky faucet can discharge
hundreds of gallons of water a day and harm a drain field.
The homeowner should pump the septic tank every two years and clean the effluent filter as needed.
Garbage disposal use should be minimized, and non -biodegradable materials should not be placed
into the OWS. Grease should not be placed in household drains. Loading from a water softener
should not be discharged into the OWS. No hazardous wastes should be directed into the OWS.
Mechanical room drains should not discharge into the OWS. The OWS is engineered for domestic
waste only.
ADDITIONAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES
If design includes a pump, air release valves and weep holes should be installed to allow pump lines
to drain to minimize risk of freezing. Extensions should be placed on all septic tank components to
allow access to them from existing grade. Precast concrete tanks and distribution boxes should be
used, unless plastic or fiberglass is required. Access to all tank compartments and distribution devices
is optimal.
INSTALLATION OBSERVATIONS
ALL SERVICE septic, LLC, and the county must view the OWS during construction. The OWS
observation should be performed before backfill, after placement of chambers and distribution pipes.
Septic tanks, distribution devices, pumps, dosing siphons, and other plumbing, as applicable, must
also be observed. ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified 48 hours in advance to observe the
installation.
LMTS:
The design is based on information submitted. If conditions encountered are different from conditions
described in report, ALL SERVICE septic, LLC should be notified. All OWS construction must be
according to the county regulations. Requirements not specified in this report must follow county
regulations. The installer should have documented and demonstrated knowledge of the requirements
and regulations of the county in which they are working.

The design is for one 750 gallon two compartment concrete tank with and effluent filter at the 2- bedroom guest
cabin with gravity flow to a 1250 gallon two compartment concrete tank which will serve the 3—bedroom
Barn/Caretaker unit. This tank has a Biotube pump vault. There are four mounded, pressurized beds each with a
sand base area of 12 ft X 80 ft for a total of 3840 infiltrative area. The depth of the sand is 18 inches minimum
which extends 1 -foot above grade to maintain a 4 ft separation from groundwater. Two inch perforated laterals are
placed above the sand, bedded in one foot of clean gravel. The engineer must confirm that the sand conforms
to the intent of Section 6.28.670 A. of the Pitkin County ISDS regulations or conform to ISDS Policy 2005-
001.

Serena Spring in the amount of 0.033 c.f.s. for domestic use and the irrigation of one acre, with
an appropriation date of December 31, 1955. Additionally, the ruling awarded conditional water
rights in Serena Spring in the amount of 0.104 c.f.s. for domestic, livestock watering, irrigation,
and piscatorial uses, with an appropriation date of July 8, 1986. The decreed location for the
Serena Spring is the SWIA NWIA of Section 9, Township 10 South, Range 85 West of the 61h
P.M. The Serena Spring is augmented by releases from Marolt Reservoir pursuant to an
augmentation plan decreed in Case No. 87CW368. My understanding is that the Serena Spring
has historically been utilized for domestic and lawn irrigation purposes associated with a historic
cabin and barn on the property.
In Case Nos. 93CW47 and 99CW106, the Water Court granted decrees finding that
reasonable diligence had been maintained in perfecting the conditional water rights of the Serena
Spring in the amount of 0.104 c.f.s. As a result, conditional uses for livestock, irrigation, and
piscatorial were to continue in full force and effect through the next succeeding diligence period.
Additionally, the Water Court in Case No. 99CWI06, enlarged the award of absolute water
rights associated with Serena Spring to the full amount of 0.104 c.f.s. for domestic use and
irrigation of one acre of lawns and gardens. Hence, the Serena Spring may presently be utilized
for domestic and irrigation purposes at the historic cabin and barn at a rate of up to 0.104 c.f.s.
