At the time of pumping, they were able to verify that the pipe entering the septic tank without a tee that we observed during our inspection was NOT the inlet pipe. The inlet pipe, including the tee, was tucked under the lid and entered the side of the septic tank. At the time of pumping, Altitude Septic also cleaned the effluent filter and added an extension handle for easier access. Please call with questions. The legal description of the 1.0- acre property is Lot 34, Block 2, Crystal River Park Subdivision. The permit and record drawing was provided by Pitkin County Environmental Health Department (Parcel ID #2649-161-01-008). The subject OWTS consists of one 1500-gallon, two-compartment concrete septic tank. Effluent gravity flows to six rows of 12 ‘Standard’ Infiltrator chambers for a total of 1350 square feet of infiltrative area. Individual Sewage Disposal System Permit 01021 documents this system. The system was sized to accommodate 3 bedrooms. The permit received final approval July 16, 2002. A clean out was located near the northeast corner of the residence. The septic tank was just beyond the planters under a railroad tie walkway that need to be removed in order to access the septic tank lids. Both manhole lids of the septic tank we accessible once the railroad ties were removed with 2-feet of risers on the inlet side of the septic tank and 1.5-feet of risers on the outlet side of the septic tank. The inlet tee is missing, and the outlet tee is present with an effluent filter. The inlet tee must be replaced. We recommend adding a handle extension on the outlet tee so the filter is more easily accessible for future cleaning. We measured approximately 1-inch of scum on the inlet side of the septic tank over suspended sludge as the septic tank is in use. We measured approximately 4-inches of sludge on the outlet side of the septic tank. While the septic tank does not need to be pumped at this time, it may be pumped as part of the buyer’s contract. Depending on the timeframe of the sale, we can re-evaluate the level of solids in the septic tank at that time. We also recommend repairs to the inlet tee be made when the septic tank is pumped below the level of the tee. A clean out was present between the septic tank and the soil treatment area (STA). Inspection ports were present in four corners of the STA. There was approximately 4-inches of standing water the southeast inspection port. According to the drawing provided by Pitkin County, effluent enters the manifold closest to this chamber. All other inspection ports were dry. The inspection ports extend as deep as 8-feet below grade. We walked the STA and found no evidence of surface saturation or failure at the time of our inspection. This evaluation is not a guarantee of future system performance. This inspection is good for one year. Required Repairs: • Install inlet tee. Recommendations: • Clean effluent filter annually, or as needed. • Add handle extension on effluent filter.
