The legal description of the 2.1-acre property is Lot 9, Block 1, Filing 2, Brush Creek Village Subdivision. The permit and record drawing was provided by Pitkin County Environmental Health Department (Parcel ID #2643-213-01-002). The subject OWTS consists of one 1000-gallon, two -compartment poly Norwesco® septic tank. Effluent gravity flows to 30' x 100' pipe and gravel STA with "fill material" below the infiltrative area. "Banner Engineers" design dated 3/4/88 was not provided, but is noted in Individual Sewage Disposal System Permit 88005, which documents this system. The system was sized to accommodate 3 bedrooms. The permit received final approval on September 16, 1988. The septic tank and STA are located to the south (behind) the residence, opposite of the driveway. Note that the location of the OWTS on the south side of the house has limited or no access for machinery, making any future repair or replacement of the OWTS extremely difficult. A clean out is located between the house and the septic tank, under the deck. A 6-inch pipe allows access to the inlet side of the septic tank and 4-inch pipe to the outlet side of the septic tank. We recommend exposing the lids for better access to both sides of the septic tank. Add risers if needed. We also recommend installation of an effluent filter once the outlet manhole lid is exposed. If installed, this filter must be cleaned annually, or as needed. We were able to photograph inside of the septic tank to verify presence of inlet and outlet tees and the mid -tank baffle. The structure of the septic tank appeared to be in tact from what we were able to observe. The septic tank was pumped by RotoRooter at the time of our inspection. They found a significant amount of sludge and scum in the septic tank, indicating the septic tank had not been pumped in some time. Limited access through both the 6-inch and 4-inch pipes made thorough pumping and cleaning difficult due to the fact that the pumper had limited access and visibility. The STA was covered with snow at the time of our inspection. We ran water from the house for approximately 20 minutes prior to pumping the septic tank and found no evidence of surface saturation or failure at the time of our inspection. No inspection ports were observed during our inspection. A distribution box is noted in the record drawing, but is not accessible from grade; therefore, this component of the OWTS was unable to be inspected. This evaluation is not a guarantee of future system performance. This inspection is good for one year. Recommendations: • Expose manhole lids on septic tank for better access to both sides of the tank. Add risers if needed. • Install effluent filter on outlet tee. If installed, this filter must be cleaned annually, or as needed. This report and a completed OWTS Use Permit Application must be submitted to the Pitkin County Environmental Health Department. Applications may be submitted to Pitkin County Environmental Health Department electronically. The following are links to the required OWTS Use Permit Application and Checklist.
