Project List: Book Drops
• LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
September 17, 1980
ROUTINE:
Snowmass: The Snowmass Library Station opened with flourishes and some
fanfare yesterday evening. Over fifty people came to the open house.
Dick Clarke was on hand to present a twenty-five minute speech entitled,
"Books and What They Mean to Me. " Finding it impossible to be heard
over the masses, however, Dick decided to save the speech for Tuesday's
meeting when he will share his insights with us.
System Workshop: Elva Fitzpatrick, Carol McArdell , and Hilda Thurston
will attend workshops this weekend at Silverthorne sponsored by Three
Rivers. There will be concurrent sessions on reference services and
children's literature.
System Meeting: A Three Rivers Membership Council meeting will be held
on Thrusday, October 2, in Glenwood. From 10:30 to 12:00, Evelyn Brewster
of the State Library will present an introduction to the New Colorado
Trustee Handbook. Mona Frost and Jamie Hall are already planning to
attend, but if anyone else can go along, it will probably be very worth-
while.
• Budget Revisions: I 'm still at work on these. If possible, I ' ll try to
mail them before the meeting. If not, I ' ll point out changes (most of
which are minor) at the meeting.
Financial Report: John Eldert was on vacation in the time span between
the Board meeting and the printing out of the enclosed report. Therefore,
the changes discussed at the meeting have not been made. He will see
that the reserve fund appears from now on and that the information on
the Visual Art Center does not. For this month, I've lined out those
items and added the fund balance.
PENDING ACTION:
Expansion: I spoke with Curt Stewart, County Manager, yesterday to see
if there were any new developments on any of the "land deals." He said
Dr. Oden met with the Commissioners regarding the sale of his property
behind the Courthouse. It appeared that he was very anxious to make
a deal on that land in exchange for permission to build on the Hospital
property. Curt felt his preferences in order are: 1) Hospital , 2) Library,
3) anywhere in town large enought--maybe Rio Grande; and that time is a
definite factor. Curt feels that a deal might be worked exchanging
hospital land for the property in back of the Courthousvand:a:low pricTE
on the Clinic.
Lighting: I met with Peter Dobrovolny and the mechanical engineer a
• few weeks ago. Together, a totally new plan has been devised which I
will explain at the meeting. We have not invited Peter to this meeting,
thinking it would be wise to wait a bit longer to make certain we won't
move in the next few years.
