HomeMy WebLinkAboutbocc.res.072.2021 Contract No. 228.2021 Attached RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ("BOCC") OF PITKIN COUNTY, COLORADO AUTHORIZING, THE PITKIN COUNTY OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT TO ACCEPT A GRANT FROM FEMA PASSED THROUGH TO THE COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY,DIVISION OF HOMELAND SECURITY AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT (DHSEM) FOR THE PURPOSE OF UPDATING OUR PITKIN COUNTY HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN (HMP) RESOLUTION NO. 072, 2021 RECITALS WHEREAS, Pursuant to Section 2.8.3 (Actions) of the Pitkin County Home Rule Charter ("HRC") official action by formal resolution shall be required for all actions of the Board not requiring ordinance power on matters of significant importance affecting citizens, and; WHEREAS, A FEMA approved HMP is a requirement of the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 for communities to remain eligible for future funding for pre disaster mitigation grants, or should there be a Presidential Disaster Declaration, post disaster mitigation grants. Our updated HMP will replace our 2018 plan. WHEREAS, Identifying, prioritizing, and developing mitigation strategies for natural disasters will reduce the potential impacts of those hazards, with the ultimate goal of preventing or minimizing loss of life,property damage, and harm to the environment. WHEREAS, If approved by the BOCC the $51,000 FEMA grant will be used to hire a consultant to help facilitate the update process. The county has a$17,487 in kind contribution. If approved this resolution would replace 034-2018. WHEREAS, The BOCC finds that it is in the best interests of the citizens of Pitkin County to approve this Resolution. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Pitkin County, Colorado that it hereby adopts a Resolution of the Board of County Commissioners of Pitkin County, Colorado authorizing the Pitkin County Office of Emergency Management to accept a grant from FEMA passed through to the Colorado Department of Public Safety, Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) for the purpose of updating our Pitkin County Hazard Mitigation Plan(HMP) and authorizes the Chair to sign the Resolution and upon the satisfaction of the County Attorney as to form, execute any other associated documents necessary to complete this matter. 1 INTRODUCED AND FIRST READ ON THE 27th DAY OF October, 2021 AND SET FOR SECOND READING AND PUBLIC HEARING ON THE 3rd DAY OF November 2021.
