RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS (“BOCC”) OF PITKIN COUNTY, COLORADO, IN SUPPORT OF THE ASPEN AMBULANCE DISTRICT BALLOT QUSTION 6A
RESOLUTION NO. 080-2022
RECITALS
WHEREAS, Pursuant to Section 2.8.4 (Actions) of the Pitkin County Home Rule Charter
(“HRC”), all matters not required to be acted upon by ordinance or formal resolution may be acted upon by informal resolution, and; WHEREAS, The Aspen Ambulance District (“the District”) was created in 1982.
Community support for the District was based on the need for local emergency response,
and; WHEREAS, The need for emergency response has grown as our population is aging, visitation is increasing with second home owners staying even longer, and more people of
all skill levels are enjoying recreation and the great outdoors, and;
WHEREAS, The Ambulance District responds not only to emergency medical calls, but also to calls related to wildfires, structure fires, auto accident fires and to pedestrian, hiker, biker and swift-water emergency calls. Additionally, the District is on standby for
Mountain Rescue incidents resulting in the need to staff the Districts’ emergency response
to 24/7, 365 days a year, with two fully trained in-house crews, and; WHEREAS, The Services provided by the District are not limited to emergency responses. The District also does prevention and education such as teaching CPR and AED classes,
supports local wellness fairs and vaccination/immunization clinics, in addition to providing
medical support for special events, and; WHEREAS, Many of the District’s emergency calls don’t result in fees collected to the District and decreases in insurance reimbursement rates often times leads to a loss, and;
WHEREAS, The District has made significant efforts to reduce costs while increasing service and efficiency. The current budget is not sustainable due in large part to reduced health insurance payments, rising costs for fuel, vehicle replacement, and for specialized medical equipment with associated training costs, and;
Whereas, The District is putting before the District voters Ballot Question 6A because the District’s ability to continue to provide the high level of emergency response our community has come to expect, that our community deserves, is in need of long-term
sustainable funding.
Whereas, first responders from the Aspen Ambulance District are here for us 24/7 and now they need us to be here for them. A yes vote on 6A will allow the District to maintain critical funding to continue the excellent service provided to our residents, our visitors and
guests, to our community as a whole.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Pitkin County, Colorado that we encourage and support a Yes Vote on Ballot Question 6A. INTRODUCED, READ AND ADOPTED ON THE 26TH DAY OF OCTOBER 2022.
