HomeMy WebLinkAboutNWCCOG EV Charging LOS 8.2024.docxThe Honorable Pete Buttigieg August 26,2024 Secretary US Department of Transportation 1200 New Jersey Ave SE, Washington,DC 20590 RE:Pitkin County supports the Northwest Colorado Regional Electric Vehicle Charging Network project Dear Secretary Buttigieg, On behalf of Pitkin County,we write to express our strong support for the Northwest Colorado Rural Electric Vehicle Charging Network project. With US Department of Transportation Charging &Fueling Infrastructure grant funds, the Northwest Colorado Council of Governments (NWCCOG)will deploy electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure along four Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs)across seven rural counties in Northwest Colorado. This collective effort will facilitate the expansion of EV charging infrastructure that is necessary for enabling EV adoption for residents, visitors, commuters, and freight traveling within our rural Rocky Mountain region. Pitkin County is pleased to participate as a core partner in the Northwest Colorado Rural Electric Vehicle Charging Network project.Pitkin County supports efforts to expand EV charging along State Highway 82 through the County to access the communities of Aspen and Snowmass Village because our residents and employees are interested in adopting EVs but remain hesitant due to the lack of adequate charging infrastructure, long commuting times, and cold temperatures in our region. In addition,we wish to encourage EV use for visitors to our world class ski resorts and outdoor recreation, and to encourage EV drivers to leave their vehicles at our regional park &ride lot and switch to public transit for travel within Aspen and Pitkin County. Pitkin County is prepared to coordinate with NWCCOG and the competitively selected charge point operator for the project throughout the installation, operation, and maintenance of the new charging infrastructure. Please give NWCCOG’s proposal for US DOT Charging &Fueling Infrastructure grant funds the highest consideration for funding. Sincerely, Greg Poschman,Chair Pitkin County Board of County Commissioners 530 E.Main Street Aspen,CO 81611 970-920-5200
