The permit and record drawing were provided by Pitkin County Environmental Health Department (Parcel ID #2649-291-02-021). The subject OWTS is documented by Individual Sewage Disposal System (ISDS) Permit 02055 and consists of one 1250-gallon, two-compartment concrete septic tank with an effluent filter on the outlet tee. Effluent gravity flows to a distribution box and then to six rows of five ‘Standard’ Infiltrator® chambers in a bed configuration. A clean out is present within 5-feet of the house. The septic tank is located east of the residence, in the driveway parking area. There was a significant amount of accumulation of a grease-like product and the inlet tee was clogged. Levels in the septic tank were over-full prior to pumping as a result of the effluent filter being clogged. When the effluent filter was removed, normal flow resumed. This septic tank was pumped as part of the inspection by Altitude Septic. The effluent filter was cleaned and replaced in the tee to prevent solids from entering the field. This filter must be cleaned annually, or as needed. We recommend jetting the lines from the house to the septic tank and tank to the STA. The distribution box was not accessible from grade at the time of the inspection. We walked the soil treatment area (STA) and no inspection ports were observed even though it was noted they were installed on the as-built letter from the engineer upon inspection of the system installation. The STA showed no signs of surface saturation, and no indication of failure at the time of the inspection. We recommend the weeds and over-growth be trimmed in the STA. This evaluation is not a guarantee of future system performance. This inspection is good for one year. Recommendations: • Jet lines from house to septic tank and septic tank to distribution box. • Clean effluent filter annually, or as needed. The system was originally sized to accommodate a 2-bedroom residence. Minimum sizing requirements for a 3-bedroom residence under current Pitkin County OWTS code versus existing system capacity are compared in Table 1 below: TABLE 1 Septic Tank Soil Treatment Area 3-bedroom residence minimum sizing requirements 1000-gallons Using Soil Type 2A1, gravity bed with chambers, minimum 756 square feet of infiltrative area Existing OWTS sizing 1250-gallons 30 Standard2 Infiltrator® chambers = 562.5 square feet In summary, the existing OWTS exceeds the minimum tank volume capacity; however, the infiltrative area is approximately 194 square feet short of the minimum capacity required to serve a 3-bedroom residence. A completed OWTS Use Permit Application must be submitted to the Pitkin County Environmental Health Department. Applications must be submitted to Pitkin County Environmental Health Department electronically. The following is the link to the required OWTS Use Permit Application: https://pitkincounty.com/FormCenter/Environmental-Health-18/Property-SaleRemodel-Use-Permit-Applicat- 70 Within the application, you must attach the Inspection Form where “Pitkin County Inspection Form” is requested, the OWTS Inspection Packet where “Site Plan” is requested, and Floor Plans where “Floor Plans” are requested. Floor plans may be hand drawn and must represent number of bedrooms or potential bedrooms in the residence. All questions regarding permit submission can be directed to Pitkin County Environmental Health Department, 970-920-5070. The inspector has not been retained to warrant or guarantee the property functioning of the system for any period of time in the future. Because of numerous factors which may affect the operation of an OWTS, as well as the inability of the Inspector to supervise or monitor the use or maintenance of this OWTS, this report shall not be construed as a warranty by the Inspector that the system will function properly for any particular prospective buyer, and the Inspector disclaims any warranty, either expressed or implied, arising from the inspection of the OWTS or this report. Galena Aspen, CO 81612 RE: Griggs Residence — As -Built ISDS System, Tract 18, Swiss Village Subdivision, Pitkin County Colorado SE Job No. 21063.01 Dear Carla: Pursuant to your request, this letter provides documentation that the new ISDS system recently installed is in general compliance with the permitted design. The Griggs system has been completed. The system constructed on site was designed and built to serve the needs of the'2-bedroom home. Sopris Engineering has performed visits to inspect and document the as built conditions of the constructed system. We have coordinated our efforts with the owner and contractor that built the system. The as built conditions and installation of the new ISDS components is in compliance with the permitted design specifications for the system with slight adjustments pertaining to the location and finish grade of the absorption field, requested modifications to the distribution box and an increase in septic tank size. The System was installed in accordance with Pitkin County Regulations; the design presented in the Sopris Engineering Report and the design drawings, dated May 15, 2001. A 1250 gallon dual compartment septic tank was installed with 4" tee baffles and an effluent filter., The absorption field was constructed with 6 parallel chamber rows in a bed configuration as generally delineated on the site plan. The surface grades have been lowered approximately 1-2 feet. Inspection ports were installed on each corner end chamber and on alternate ends of the 2 middle rows. The bed is 32' by 18' approximately 36" deep. The trenches were installed in suitable soil consistent across the bed. A distribution box was installed with a 4" riser to the surface and 3 individual distribution lines connected to 3 pairs of bed chamber rows. The D-box was retrofitted with a concrete baffle to deflect incoming effluent. The construction was completed utilizing specified materials installed according to design. The minimum setback distances have been maintained. Attached is an as -built drawing of the system. The absorption field maintains an offset of 25 feet from a man made channel to the west. This channel serves as an overflow to a water diversion system that fills a storage tank on the adjacent up gradient development. The channel is only has limited intermittent flows. The channel is not a native stream nor does it serve as a ditch. A limited amount of runoff or snowmelt will flow in the channel from a limited tributary area. Based on the soil conditions, absence of ground water and the small daily flow distributed over the absorption bed area we do not expect any lateral movement of treated effluent from the field to the channel. Based on these conditions we consider this channel to be an equivalent dry gulch. If you have any question or need any additional information, please call.
