The legal description of the 33.143-acre property is Braun Subdivision. The permit and record drawing was provided by Pitkin County Environmental Health Department (Parcel ID #2643-161-04-001). The subject OWTS consists of one 1250-gallon, two-compartment concrete septic tank with an Orenco® pumping system in the second compartment. Effluent is pressure dosed to two trenches, each with 12 ‘Standard’ Infiltrator® chambers. Individual Sewage Disposal System Permit 02048 documents this system. The system was sized to accommodate 1 bedroom, 4 horse stalls, and one bathroom in the Barn. The permit received final approval on January 8, 2003. The septic tank is located to the north of the barn. Risers bring both manhole lids to grade for access. Inlet tees were present on the inlet side of the tank and a pumping system is located in the second compartment of the septic tank. The pump and alarm were tested from the floats and were functioning properly at the time of our inspection. The control panel is located in the crawl space on the northwest side of the barn. The filter was cleaned at the time of the inspection. The septic tank was pumped by B&R Septic at the time of our inspection. Effluent from the septic tank is pressure dosed to two gravelless chamber trenches. An air relief valve is located at the high point of the manifold between the trenches. There is access to the valve from a sprinkler box. There are inspection ports at the ends of the trenches in the soil treatment area (STA). We observed the pressure pipe through the inspection port and effluent was spraying normally to the ends of the trenches after the pump was activated. We walked the STA and found no evidence of surface saturation or failure at the time of our inspection. This evaluation is not a guarantee of future system performance. This inspection is good for one year. Recommendations: • Clean effluent filter annually, or as needed. This report and a completed OWTS Use Permit Application must be submitted to the Pitkin County Environmental Health Department. Applications may be submitted to Pitkin County Environmental Health Department electronically. The following are links to the required OWTS Use Permit Application and Checklist. The Inspector has not been retained to warrant or guarantee the proper functioning of the system for any period of time in the future. Because of numerous factors which may affect the operation of an OWTS, as well as the inability of the Inspector to supervise or monitor the use or maintenance of this OWTS, this report shall not be construed as a warranty by the Inspector that the system will function properly for any particular prospective buyer, and the Inspector disclaims any warranty, either expressed or implied, arising from the inspection of the OWTS or this report. The evaluation does not ascertain the impact the system is having on groundwater. Please call with questions.
