Changes must be approved by this Department and the engineer prior to construction. This system will consist of a 1,500 gallon 2 compartment concrete tank followed by a single compartment 1000 gallon dosing tank. Dosing tank will contain an Orenco PF300511 or equivalent to alternately dose 4 beds with an ADV. ADV must be placed at a high point between the field area and tank to allow drainback. Each bed will consist of 96 “Quick-4” units (4x24) or 76 “ARC36” units (4x19). Beds must be separated by at least 6’. All tank risers must be accessible from grade. Well setback of 100’ must be maintained. This Permit must be kept on-site during installation. The engineer must do a final inspection of the installation and submit an "as -built" letter to this Department within 30 days of the final inspection, unless a longer period of time has been agreed upon, in writing. This Department must also be called for the final inspection with a minimum of 48 hours notice. Minimum horizontal distances between components of the system and physical features shall conform to the requirements of the Pitkin County OWTS Regulation. This Permit is conditioned upon the property owner(s) providing for regular inspection, cleaning, and maintenance of the syst em by qualified personnel, in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations and the requirements of the Pitkin County OWTS Regulation. Issuance of this OWTS Construction Permit does not constitute a guarantee, warranty, or representation by the Department that the system will operate properly or will not fail. Issuance of this permit does not imply compliance with Pitkin County building and/or land use regulations, nor guarantee issuance of building and/or land use permits. THIS PERMIT IS EXPRESSLY CONDITIONED UPON COMPLIANCE WITH ALL REQUIREMENTS OF THE PITKIN COUNTY OWTS REGULATION, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THOSE CONDITIONS SPECIFIED ABOVE. I have added a single turned down hole at the end of each chamber row for drainag scour protection (see attached). - The drawing is not clear that the ADV is positioned at the highest elevation between the field and tanks to ensure drainback, topography lines will help clarify. I don’t have any topographic co ADV on the drawing and added an annotation so that it is clearly on the uphill side of the system and higher than the tanks and field. One other thing I noticed is that the fixtures do not need to be counted if the system is being sized by bedroom count. The fixtures are included in those calculations. If this were a commercia bedrooms not applicable then the fixture/use calculations would be appropriate. If you recall, this residence has 3 older ISDS systems. This system service 2 bedrooms, a 1 bedroom ADU an Bedroom/Bath is on a separate system, but the residential use of the kitchen is still for the whole house. Buttermilk with Bryan while you’ve been out of the office. He said you’re working, from home and that I should email you. The property at 1313 W. Buttermilk has 3 separate OWTS systems on it and one of them is failing. I performed percolation test and a soils analysis through observation and we’re dealing wit uncommon in W. Buttermilk. The soil strata varied in color to 8’, but all layers were laden with low permeability heavy clays. The home as a whole is over 6000, but this particular OWTS is on attached 1-bedroom ADU and the house kitchen. The master bedroom/bath and a bunkroom (pullout couch) are on a 2nd OWTS and a nearby (20’ away) detached 2 bedroom ADU is on the (south wing) doesn’t have any lavish showers, tubs or other high demand features typical of larger homes in the Aspen area. Because this is a repair and a secondary part of the overall home, I’m hoping that the Design Flow for this particular OWTS can be considered at 75 gpdc or that if nothing else, the 1 bedroom run some preliminary numbers using a gravelless chamber system and an unlined sand filter system (TL3) and both result in over 4000 SF of bed area which has to be broken down into 4 be system were sized according to the older Q*sqrt(t)/5 rule, we’d only be looking at about 2200 SF of bed. I’m told that this OWTS operated just fine since the early 1980s, so it seems reasona using 75 gpdc instead of 100 gpd. As an FYI, we priced out the unlined sand filter option and it’s more than double the cost of Infiltrators, so the client doesn’t want to go there. If this is confusing, then please call me. (BUI) performed a soils investigation using percolation testing and a visual and tactile evaluation of a soil profile test pit on September 20, 2017 at the following address: 1313 W. Buttermilk Road Aspen, CO PIN#2735-033-01-001 Section 3 & 10, T.10S., R.85W. The 57.4 acre property is currently developed with a 6,000+ SF single family residence with an attached ADU, a detached ADU. Wastewater is currently managed of by three (3) separate Onsite Wastewater Treatment Systems (OWTS) as follows: OWTS #1: South Wing - 2 secondary bedrooms/baths, attached 1 bedroom ADU, and the house kitchen. OWTS #2: West Wing - master bedroom/bath and a secondary 2-person bunkroom (pullout couch) OWTS #3: Detached ADU - 2 bedrooms The absorption field for OWTS #1 has failed, while OWTS #2 and #3 continue to function under the currently loads. This soils investigation is for the purpose of repairing or altering OWTS #1 downhill and to the west of the existing absorption field at a location which is outside the irrigated lawn. Please see Figure 1 on the next page. The site topography in the area of the proposed absorption field slopes gently from northeast to southwest at a grade of approximately 10%-15% and is vegetated with native grasses, rabbitbrush and low lying sagebrush. No streams, lakes, ponds, ditches or wetlands exist within 100’ of the proposed absorption filed. Observed soils consist of 1-1/2’ dark brown topsoil over 1-1/2' of moist stiff reddish tan clay w/ weathered sandstone/claystone gravels and 12"Ø-18"Ø rocks over 2' of moist stiff tannish red clay w/ red weathered sandstone/claystone gravels and 12"Ø -18"Ø rocks over moist stiff brown sandy clay with sandstone/claystone gravels and 12"Ø -18"Ø rocks to a profile depth of 8’. When hand kneaded and rolled, the three clay layers each quickly formed smooth ribbons. No groundwater, soil mottling (indicative of seasonal high ground water) or bedrock was encountered in the profile hole. See the attached Results of Percolation Test. Test pits were excavated using a mini-track hoe excavator. The profile/evaluation pit was excavated in the location of Test Pit #3 after the percolation tests had been completed. An additional undocumented test was performed in the deeper brown sandy clay, to estimate if the deeper soils might be have a faster infiltrative rate, but no improvement was observed. Based on the investigation, the soils are Soil Type-5 with Long Term Acceptance Rate (LTAR) of 0.10 gallons per square foot under a Treatment Level 1 (TL1) or 0.15 gallons per square foot for a Treatment Level 2 (TL2) or higher.
