NO. 74-31
Re: Installation of Airport Landing Lights
by Federal Aviation Agency

Agency appeared at the Board of County Commissioners meeting
on May 20, 1974, to propose the installation of a landing
light system for use during marginal weather conditions at
Sardy Field, and
WHEREAS,the FAA believes that the lights are a sig-
nificant safety aid, and would assist a pilot in the option
of returning to Sardy Field after a take-off in marginal
conditions, thereby avoiding potential accidents, and
WHEREAS,the lights would be installed with shields
so that only reflected light would be visible to those other
than pilots in airplanes, and
WHEREAS,the proposal is to install the lights as
indicated on the map attached hereto (locations shown in
pink) on a line largely following the old Denver and Rio
Grand right-of-way, and
WHEREAS,the FAA now proposes to install one light
group of the eventual proposed eight light groups so that
the environment and safety effects can be assessed, and
WHEREAS,before the lights could be installed per-
manently, the FAA would be required to obtain this Board's
approval and hold an environmental hearing pursuant to
federal law,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of
County Commissioners grants its approval for the temporary
installation of one light grouping on site one or site two
as shown on the attached map for the purpose of evaluation

impact on the following conditions: that such temporary in-
stallation approval shall terminate at the end of this calenda~
year; that the installation of the temporary light grouping
(as with any permanent installation subsequent hereto) shall
be in conformity to and with the permission of all those
who have interest in land where such groupings are to be in-
stalled, including particularly that the installation upon
the Denver and Rio Grande right-of-way belonging to the County
shall not violate in any way the restrictive covenants
contained in the deed from the Denver and Rio Grande to
Pitkin County recorded in Book , Page , or, that the
FAA shall obtain permission from the grantor waiving those
restrictive covenants in a form satisfactory to this Board.
