Good morning BOCC and OST,
Thank you for the opportunity to be heard March 5th, 2026.
I think our neighborhood in Mountain Valley has presented and written our personal
concerns regarding the Management Plan for North Star Preserve and shared our common
concerns about the existing plan as it stands. We have shared our ideas on the rules of
the Management Plan.
Please know how important this is to the seven Freimuth family residents. After residing
here for 55 to 60 years we have felt the negative impact of the commercial outfitters and
motorized bicycles in the NSP and ask that you revisit the letters and neighborhood caucus
ideas for the future of our entire valley.
No where in the documents does it say that this property was donated for recreation to the
masses. It must be protected and we are here to voice our opinions as per the previously
submitted documents. Let us be heard please.
Let me also remind you of these comments in your documents,
(this donation[ the$ 275,000 Smith family donation]... was intended to keep the land in open
space and for the purposes of wildlife. Whether this is reflected in whatever documents may exist from the
time of the donation, we never would have made the donation if there had been discussion of commercial
usages[ sic]. In addition, it was always our hope that this donation might serve as an example to others who
are interested inpreserving landandprotecting wildlife.”

Smith, Owner of The North Star Ranch, emphasized that the driving force behind the
transfer of
North Star from private to public ownership was the protection of wildlife habitat and open
space. InalettertothePitkinCountyPlanningandZoningCommissiondatedJuly18,1984,
Sydney Macy wrote,
ii) No more than one commercial kayaking/canoeing operator will be permitted to operate at North Star
in a given season)
