HomeMy WebLinkAbout04.22.2026 Brian Pettet LimerickThere once was a fellow named Pettet
Who joined Pitkin County right out of school
He rose fast through the ranks and can take credit
For many of the County’s crown jewels
It was he who was wandering under
A bridge with an enormous crack
It took time to convince those to fix it
And while we waited it was held up by a jack
A new Maroon Creek Bridge was a triumph
for this hard-hatted MBA with a tan
The next thing we know he was flying
As the County’s superhero Asphalt Man
You see, Pettet was in love with roadbed
He read magazines about gravel and rocks
The mere mention of rip rap and aggregate
Would bring out Asphalt Man in his tights and white sox
Through rain, sleet and snow he was watchful
For potholes and dangerous bumps
And he made it his career-long mission to
Stop calling the landfill a dump
Parking lots were one of his challenges
A commodity over which leaders sparred
Pettet fought for the county to own them
And found a permanent place for his car
It’s that Asphalt Man leadership and charisma
That has elevated Pettit to his fate
Of getting the attention that was needed
To fund local projects by CDOT and the State
For over three decades we’ve marveled while Pettet
Faced down planning, and parking and potholes
There is so much for which he can take credit
And we hope there will be no more knot holes.
Take flight Asphalt Man we’ll be waving
As you soar above mountains and streams
For the damsels in distress you’ll be saving
While you follow your hard-earned dreams.
