MORSE FOR HIS YEARS OF DEDICATION TO THE ASPEN VALLEY
SKI CLUB AND THE YOUTH OF THE ASPEN NORDIC SKI TEAM
PROCLAMATION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF PITKIN
COUNTY, COLORADO HONORING CHRISTOPHER "TOBY" MORSE FOR HIS
YEARS OF DEDICATION TO THE ASPEN VALLEYSKI CLUB AND THE YOUTH
OF THE ASPEN NORDIC SKI TEAM
WHEREAS, Christopher "Toby" Morse was the 6th of 8 children born and raised
in Aspen by long time locals Wendy and Rudy Morse; and
WItEREAS, Toby Morse competed on the Aspen Ski Club Nordic team as a
teenager under the tutelage of beloved coach, John Kuehlman and went on to claim the title
of Prep School Champion while attending Holderness, andjobted the NCAA Nordic Team
at Dartmouth where he enjoyed top ten ftnishes in races between 1975 and 1978; and
WHEREAS, Toby Morse returned to Aspen after college where he found work as
an accomplished builder with some early lOth Mountain Division Huts among his
projects while dreaming of working in the Nordic skiing industry which he love& and
WHEREAS, Toby Morse realized that dream by operating the Snowmass Touring
Center for more than a decade (14 years beginning in 1982) during the 80 's and puttbtg
on such memorable cross country racing events as the Silverboom which attracted
competitors from age 2 to 82; and
WHEREAS, Toby Morse spent the next decade instilling his passion for the sport
into the lives of the children and young adults on the Aspen Valley Ski Club Nordic Team
where he served as Head Coach and Director of the Nordic Program increasing the
program from 13 to 45 ski team members; and
WHEREAS, Toby Morse has a way with kids that mixes feisty mischief with
dedication that the kids can feel bt their core as they train and race in all kinds of
weather, under all kinds of social and emotional conditions, fendbtg off the demons that
btclude physical pain and the agony of defeat replacing them with the inspiration that
trybtg your best and having fun is all that really matters.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED, that the Pitkin County
Commissioners and the people of Pitkin County are honored to recognize Toby Morse as
an important role model in the lives of the lucky kids who had him as a coach and as an
inspiration to a community that is always searchbtgfor leaders to look up to.
