HomeMy WebLinkAboutUinta Basin Opposition 4.21.23.docxApril 21,2023 EMAIL Dear Secretary Vilsack, The Uinta Basin oil train must not be approved for transit through Glenwood Canyon in Colorado. As we have seen, rail safety standards have been compromised repeatedly in the United States,to the point where a derailment endangers lives and public health.A derailment in the geologically unstable Glenwood Canyon section of the rail route could result in a hazardous spill that stops interstate transit, pollutes the main stem of the Colorado river and endangers the livelihoods and health of 40 million downstream water users from Colorado through Utah,Arizona,Nevada and California. It would be better for our long term health, security and safety if Amercans stopped producing dirty oil, such as the Unita basin product, and focused on decentralized, clean, renewable energy production and storage. The rail transport proposal is a bad idea on too many levels. Please stop it from progressing.
