COMBINING OF PRECINCTS
RESOLUTION NO. 00;'- -2000
RECITALS
1 . Pursuant to C.R. S. 1-5-101 (4) , . . the county clerk and recorder
may combine precincts for any primary election. . . "
2 . Precinct consolidation is governed by House District boundaries .
3 . Historically, turnout for primary elections is low, and in addition,
early voting has caused a decrease in polling place turnout even more .
4 . Combining precincts lowers election costs .
5 . Recruitment of polling place judges has become increasingly more
difficult .
6 , St. Mary' s is a better polling place for precinct 6 (than The Aspen
Community Church) because a good portion of the precinct resides in the
Independence Pass area. St. Mary' s is handicapped accessible and the
judges like the facility' s heating, lighting, and other amenities .
7 . The polling places chosen are all handicapped accessible.
8 . The actual relocations are:
• P#3 (66 active voters) moves from St. Mary' s to The Youth Center
• P#5 (707 act voters) moves from Christ Episcopal Church to First
Baptist Church
• P#6 (438 act voters) moves from Aspen Community Church to St . Mary' s
• P#15 (292 act voters) moves from Aspen Chapel to Schultz HHS Bldg
• P#16 (42 act voters) moves from Thomasville Fire Station to Basalt HS
9 . Notification: There will be the standard public notices of polling
places in addition to any relocated elector being notified by postcard.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of
Pitkin County, Colorado, that the following precincts be combined for the
primary elections of March 10 , 2000 and August 8 , 2000 and that the polling
place for precinct 6 be permanently changed to St . Mary' s Church:
