OF PITKIN COUNTY, COLORADO
SUPPORTING THE FORMATION OF AN ASPEN HISTORIC PARK AND
RECREATION DISTRICT
Resolution #05-
Recitals
1. The Board of County Commissioners of Pitkin County (the "Board") values the
history of Aspen and the surrounding areas and has supported the Aspen Historical
Society in its efforts to preserve that history.
2. The Board recognizes that formation of an Aspen Historic Park and Recreation
District is necessary to support the unique public service provided by the area's historical
museums in the same way that similar institutions are protected all over the United
States.
3. The fom~ation of the Aspen Historic Park and Recreation District will help preserve
valuable community heritage programs including lectures, art and history camps, grade
school guided tours, West End walking torito, trunk shows, docent tours of museum sites
and an extensive archive library and collections of artifacts, photographs, oral histories,
manuscripts, films and videos, and newspapers from 1881.
4. The fommtion of the Aspen Historic Park and Recreation District will preserve and
protect Aspen's historic sites and museum locations including Wheeler/Stallard Museum
and Grounds, Ashcrot~ Ghost Town, Holden/Marolt Mining and Ranching Museum,
Independence Ghost Town, Life One/Willoughby Park.
5. The Board supports the fom~ation of the Historic Park and Recreation District because
its cost in property tax, only $2.38 a year for every $100,000 of market value, will
provide a huge benefit for the current community and for future generations in the Aspen
area.
6. The Board supports the proposed slate for the Board of Directors of the Aspen
Historic Park and Recreation District including Warren Klug, Judy Bleiler, Darryl Grob,
Lynn Dunlop and Bob Throm.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY TIrE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF THE COUNTY OF PITKIN, STATE OF COLORADO,
THAT
I. The Board supports Referenda 5D, 5E, and 5F organizing, providing the funding
for, and electing the directors of the Aspen Historic Park and Recreation District.
The Board urges taxpayers within the Aspen Historic Park and Recreation District
to join them in supporting these efforts to preserve our historic character by
voting yes on Referenda 5D, 5E and 5F.
