OF PITKIN COUNTY COLORADO,
IN SUPPORT OF TilE SMALl. STARTS PROGRAM

I. The Bc)ard of County Commissioners of Pitkin County. Colorado has been
informed that the administration in Washington has proposed cuts in the Small Starts
transit program and that Colorado's State Transportation Advisory Committee passed a
resolution urging its members to objcct to such cuts.
J Colorado jurisdictions and citizcns in rural and suburban areas have increasingly
looked to transit as a solution for transportation problcms including air pollution, fiscal
constraints and congestion.
3. For decades. Pitkin County has supported lransit as a solution to congestion and
air quality issues and is a member of the Weslern Slope's largest rcgional transit
authority, the Roaring Fork Transit Authority.
4. Small Starts has the potentiall'or serving Colorado and advancing the cause or
energy conservation as embraced by the administration.
TIIEREFORE IT IS RESOLVED that the Board of County Commissioners or Pitkin
County, Colorado urges Colorado's Congressional delegation to support the Small Starts
program and to oppose cuts in this program.
